Keep in mind that the Supra is not a mid-size coupe, so this wont affect it. That said I don't think demand for mid-size coupes has gone away so much as the mid size coupes being built aren't very good. This reminds me of the long-running argument that the small pickup segment is dieing. I for one would love to be able to buy a well done, inexpensive small pickup...but frankly none of those really exist at the moment so I wont.

Perhaps the automakers should try building good product in these segments again before they deem the problem to be lack of demand.

Maybe the midsize coupe segment would have been "worth it" to Toyota if they had not made the Solara so ugly in the last redesign.

Toyota made many ugly cars, but that didn't stop them from selling them.

True, but this is one of few that didn't sell well. I guess coupe buyers are looking for more than just the reputation for reliability. Hmm... come to think of it, Toyota has not had much luck at all with two doors. Do they offer any two door cars anymore besides the Scion TC, which isn't under the Toyota brand?

Toyota doesn't seem to offer anything even remotely sporty anymore. Toyota is the new brand of car for Old People!

True, but guess what guys. Toyota has figured out that most people want a practical and reliable car and that's what Toyota sells.

I had a 1986 MR2. Great little fun car, handled like a slot car, got 36 mpg on the freeway, and nothing ever broke. But they didn't sell a lot of them, so adios Senor Dos. Same with the Supra.

Toyota is not in the business of selling exciting cars. They're in the business of selling cars and in that they're doing very well. It's all about knowing knowing your market, a lesson Ford doesn't seem to have learned.

Toyota's off the mark. Any car will sell if it's built well and marketed correctly. The Solara was just about as ugly as the Aztec.
If I buy a two door, it will be an Accord/2008 Focus (must wait to see it the flesh). My four-door daily driver would be a Fusion. What I need is a studio apartment with an eight car garage!

Focus and Solara are different class. Solara competes with Accord coupe and Monte Carlo. Monte Carlo will be gone soon leaving Accord coupe as only mid-size non-luxury car on the market.

you know its kinda like the chicken and the egg.

they say the segment is dying, but the cars in the segment are pretty junky anyway, so which is causing what?

toyota is just not making anything fun.. no soul. no history. a saving grace would be a 6 speed camry v6 you know, but thats not made either
