Massive crash caught by intersection camera
Has anyone here seen this yet? This happened a couple months ago in Dayton, Ohio. Apparently an elderly woman was driving a PT Cruiser and wasn't paying any attention to the intersection she was approaching. The light was red; she ran it and completely T-boned a Subaru that was driving across. The Subaru spun around, flipped twice, and took out a pedestrian who was crossing the road -- also against the red light!
Amazingly, the pedestrian survived even though the Subaru fell on top of him. Apparently the side that had been hit by PT Cruiser fell on him, and the dent in the sheet metal was just large enough to create a hollow space to hold him in as it dragged him down the road. The man stopped breathing and was pronounced dead at the scene, but later came to in the ambulance as he was en route to the hospital.
The most amazing part -- this whole thing was caught on tape by a camera mounted at the intersection. The camera was intended to catch red light runners!
Here's a link to more information and the video (MPEG).

The more I drive, the more paranoid I get about intersections and mall/supermarket parking lots. I saw a woman t-bone another SUV as I walked out of the grocery store one day. The accident knocked one car onto its side and destroyed the other. In a parking lot, for crying out loud!
Intersections are the worst. When the light turns green, I look left and right before proceeding. It's saved me a lot of grief. Same with stop signs.
It's a scary world out there, kids. Drive safely.

B) I think there must be some problem with silver paint. Did you all notice that every car in the scene except one was silver? I cannot wait for the hearing. The company that makes the paint will be at fault. :bang:
well i am all for making people retest for their drivers license every few yrs. I wouldnt limit it to seniors though... there are plenty of 20 somethings i wouldnt get into a car with.
and no i am not saying that because i am a senior citizen.

actually whats funny about that is the fact that he ran INTO the crash instead of away from it! LOL

Even though he was crossing with the pedestrian light on red, he is still not liable. If the old lady hadn't jumped the red, the crash wouldn't have occured.
