Wish I'd saved the article or link...they want to develop a RWD/V8 to replace the Tiburon. Such heresy...what'll it cost? Did anybody see that artivcle?

Yeah I read the same thing. I can't remember where it was. If Hyundai wants to make a RWD/V8 then more power to them. It only makes this better for us because the Mustang needs something else to compete with.

Well, if Datsun made the Z, and Toyota made the Supra...
... I'd say that a RWD sport coupe is WAY overdue for Hyundai/Kia...
I kind of like the thought of a Kia 350Z/Supra, truth be told. It would cost several grand less, and, if the new Hyundai Sonata is any indication of the company's engineering and styling chops, it should be able to match the best Japan has to offer.
They've come a very long way the past 15 years...

If you read the entire thread, a V8 Tiburon is discussed.

If Hyundai can start to match the build quality and reliability of their bigger far east competitors, I can see them gaining some market share. I do not think they will be anywhere near as big as Honda or Toyota, but they should be able to make an impact.

I'm sorry if you got your feelings hurt but facts are facts: it's already been discussed.

well a V8 Tib would Definately be big in the future. it would be the first RWD platform for that company and the first V8 (i think).
i sort of see it as a modern day AMC AMX or something. pretty cool. if i had to get a car from the far east, this would be up high on the list of choices.

Then Hyundai made the 2006 Sonata-- a car that can dance, step-for-step, with the Accord and Camry. Its powertrain is turbine-smooth, with a nice, useable torque band, and superior fit-and-finish. That Hyundai is doing extremely well in both the IQS (Initial Quality Survey) AND the VDS (Vehicle Dependability Survey) proves that the quality of their build is no longer in question, but actually a major asset. That Hyundai's design and engineering chops have come so far in just 15 years leads me to believe that they can build a superior offering in whatever vehicle category they choose, if they can allot enough funding and R&D time to it.
Instead of seeing this car as an AMX-Javelin (which was a competitor to the Mustang and Camaro), I see this car as more of a Nissan 300ZX or Toyota Supra, both of which have enough of a cult following to sell new cars in large numbers in a previously-obsolete market segment (hence the 2003-2005 Nissan 350Z and the upcoming 2007? Toyota Supra).
If Kia can follow Nissan and Toyota into performance sports coupes, I think the Japanese Big 3 are going to start losing some market share... and Hyundai-Kia will have cemented their membership into an exclusive club of world-class auto-makers.
