Škoda

Does anyone else think that Volkswagen should sell Škodas in the USA?

With cars becoming more and more expensive each day, due to all new features, there aren't many cars left for people like myself who's looking for just a basic transport from the point A to the point B. I couldn't care less if a car has leather seats or voice recognized GPS or similar features. I'm just looking for a cheap, reliable transportation.

Škoda has been owned by Volkswagen since the early 1990s and all their cars are Volkswagen based, but they're usually much less expensive because they don't have as many features as Volkswagens do.

i have seen them when i was in India, but they were poor marketed and service backup was poor according to my friend who owned it. so they lost their market.
unless they have good service backup.. being cheap n affordable will not be sufficient to earn their business....

Cars never seem to be configured the same for the U.S. market as they do for others, Europe for example. I recall renting a Ford that was a Mondeo in England and was later a Contour here. The Mondeo had power front windows and roll-up rear windows to keep the price down. That would never sell well here.

Sure it would. I would buy it. My 2005 F-150 had nothing power (no power seats or windows or lock), no CD player or even a cassette player ... It was a basic work truck. It made no difference to me, I still bought it. I only wanted 4 door, 4x4 and a V8.

I think you misunderstood me. I believe most people would look at a sedan that had power windows in the front doors and roll-up windows in the back doors and walk away. I believe they would interpret such a car as the manufacturer cheaping out rather than as the manufacturer keeping the car affordable.

Zoran forgets he's from Europe where people buy that stuff. I do not think he has American tastes nailed down yet.

I am not saying its bad to have no options.. it just doesn't sell

Can't they offer both? Models with more features for people who are willing to pay for them and base models for people like myself who don't care about any fancy stuff.
I really don't care if a car has a roll-up windows in the back. I can't remember when it was a last time somebody was sitting in the back seats. So why pay for something I'm not gonna use?

How do you know? Its not like anyone is offering vehicles with no options so we can find out ... Maybe Nissan Versa, which happens to be a best selling subcompact in the USA.

The problem with that approach is that it increases manufacturing costs.
