Yes,it's a rumble seat. My mother used to tell me about riding in the rumble seat of my grandfather's Model A, I think, when shw was a young girl.

1. why is it called a rumble seat? does it rumble back there?
2. why have a seat back there?
3. can you use it while the car is going?
4. where do you put the golf clubs?

Way cool. My Dad had a 1970 AMX that him and I did a lot of work on when I was a kid. They were awesome cars. Never seen one with a rumble seat though. That'd be a pretty scary ride back there.

Thanks Doug, there also were a few early Vignale AMX (64-66) concepts that used
a "Ramble" seat.
That's what AMC called the rumble seat.

Wow grreeat link chuck!
You know looking at that baby blue "wet tshirt look" concept, the rear fenderline makes WAY more sence. On the production cars I never understood why it was there and was always the one thing I'd change on an AMX if i had designed it. But tying into the total boday line on that concept makes it have a purpose.

Sort of, but not in the way you think. I've been told, but haven't confirmed it, that it pertains to a couple in the seat and rumble had a sexual connotation in those days. Can anyone help?
