Spy Shots: ‘06 Jeep Commander
Could it be the new Wagoneer?
by Brenda Priddy (2004-07-26)

You've heard it referred to as the Grand Wagoneer, or maybe even by its codename YK. But it's practically official - Jeep's upcoming seven-passenger luxury ute with three rows of seats will be called the Jeep Commander.

Powered by a 4.7-liter V-8, or an optional 5.7-liter HEMI, the super-sized Jeep will reach dealerships in time for the 2006 model year. Expect the Commander to be in the $40,000 range.

Hart to tell exactly from the pictures because of the Camo ... But it looks very hummerish (not H2ish). Guess it's about time Jeep jumped on that bandwagon as well.

 Maybe I was talking about the overall car and not the fact that it's covered in tarp.

"12 feet tall and two lanes wide...65 tons of American pride....Canyonero!"

I love the original Wagoneer, hope this one has some styling cues, and isn't a flat out lux-ute.

Still,

All you can see is a basic shape, covered in loose black tarps designed to hide any details.

Wow. Quick to judge. It could look a lot like an extended Cherokee for all we know.

I love the normal Grand Cherokees, my mom has one. I think this will be an extended version of that. If you look at the back, the plastic outter rear window is collapsed in. it seems that the top and rear have some structure under the camo to hide the real shape.

My soccer mom comment was just what I see on the road, and now can honestly agree with HDWrench on. Soccer moms tend to get at least a little power trip with their "HUGE" Soccer Utily Vehicles and tend not to see things that are smaller than they are.
