Yeah, they're a Ford company and all, but they aren't real Fords, so this goes in this folder.
The thing with the Lexus I mentioned in the General Discussion folder fell through (financing an older model couldn't be done), but I've discovered an immaculate 1993 XJ6 for $7450 (at a place that does their own financing).
Now, I've heard horrible stories about Jaguar reliability and quality, but a '93 model would be well after the Ford purchase and subsequent better quality control. I understand parts will be expensive (I planned on this since I've been looking for older luxury models anyway), but I have a Jaguar place within 15 minutes of where I live so finding someone to work on it wouldn't be a problem.
Anyone here owned a Jaguar in the past or own one now? If so, some idea of what to expect that I can't get from consumer reviews on the internet? I should note that I'm positively in love with it and feel it's way more prestigous than a BMW or Mercedes, and unless people have absolute disaster stories to tell, I'm about 99% set on getting this. Any input is appreciated!

My last Jaguar experience isn't relevant, as it was in 1967-1969 with a 59 XK-150.
The quality and reliabilty of current Jaguars is very good since Ford bought them. I love the XJ8 and would buy one in a heartbeat.
My neighbor has an XJ6, bought used, from about the era you're looking at and has had no problems.

My cousin works for a Jag dealership, told me that alot of recent X-types were recalled for bad trannies(I think they were mostly fleet cars)...but they were replaced with new cars by Jag...
With any english car, expect some 'character'...shouldn't be too bad for a '93 car. Just make sure its 'immaculate'

I think the baby Jag has been more of a problem, according to the long term tests I've read in the major mags. But by this time, I would think that the car you're looking at has gone through all and should be pretty good. Buy it, and enjoy the ride.

Yeah, I was thinking that. Cars that are 100k (this one's 129k) and above have already had that which can go wrong do so by the time I come across them. Add to that the factor that replacement parts are most probably superior to the factory parts and it gives great peace of mind.
There's only one tiny blemish on the entire car, and that's the right front wheel well having a very tiny dent in it. You'd never notice it at a glance or even a long look. In fact, I had already test driven it and walked around it several times before the salesman himself pointed it out to me. The wheels have a wee bit of superficial rust on them (salty SC air, what do you expect), but a little WD-40 or other penetrating agent can fix that. Also, as far as the interior goes, the little pop-up door for the ashtray and lighter doesn't close. You put the door down, it just swivels right back up (probably for the best, as the ashtray door is the one piece of wood on the entire car that shows some age). Just something middling that the local Jaguar place could fix for a few bucks.

Not yet. Tomorrow is the extended test drive, but unless it's absolutely horrible on the streets of downtown Charleston it's a done deal in my mind. I'll get it either Friday or Monday.

Winston-
Post some pics when/if you get her!
I've looked at a couple of Jaguar's myself, along with some older 5 series.
Does the '93 your looking at have "4-eyes", or the Euro Headlights (Rectangle)? I think they had both in '93, but can't remember.

And dude, Winston is a guy's name.
The '66 fell through when the guy's lawyer told him not to do payments with a 20 year old that had no collateral.

Why in the world would I put my real name on here. My understanding was that it was the car's name that went in that spot.
... guess that'd explain the rather underwhelming names that the cars here seemed to have.

Tell me you're kidding...
The real name thing was Brad's idea to make the forum more personal...
