I owned a Z car and am fond of them but I cannot stand the 2+2 versions so that is a strike on this one for me. The other things I don't like are the mirrors and fender flares...as they look tacked on as an after thought. Aside from those 3 detractions I like it though .

Where the heck have those guys at Jalopnik been? They're saying this guy is doing something new? "New Stereotype"? This look isn't new. It's like somebody putting Le Mans stripes on a Mustang and saying it's a "new stereotype".
It's got pretty much the "standard" body modifications that most modified (rather than restored) S30 Z cars have had in the US since the late '90s (same front air dam, stock type rear spoiler, old style JDM mirrors, ZG flares, blacked out bumpers, panasport style wheels).
Go to some big meet like the annual MSA Z nationals and you'll see dozens of cars in this style. The only difference is that this is a 2+2, which are not all that common.
I'm getting close to finishing up my V8/4speed engine swap(welding up the exhaust system now) in my 240Z and after I get it running, I think I'm going for the "Wangan Midnight" look for the exterior, which is pretty much the same as the z in the article, except for dark blue paint instead of gray.

Anyway... never thought I'd see a "Wangan Midnight"/"Devil Z" reference in a Mustang forum!

The Devil Z is kind of like the Japanese Bullitt Mustang. Have you seen the live action Wangan Midnight from the early 90's?
