I'm goin' to the ring!!
Next spring my wife wants to go to Germany and of course she made plans for a day trip to the Nurburgring.
So I'm at a dilemma. I don't have much to spend so I am going to do the rent a racer there. I can't get an Aston or Porsche but I am between the VW Scirroco, Toyota 86 and a Peugeot.
There is a Polo GTI and Golf as well. So I'm asking your opinion, what should I rent?
I immediately love the 86 for the RWD and manual transmission and seems the perfect combo.
Problem is, the Scirocco is calling my name and I think I'll bite. I will never get to drive one again...but...it's still another VW.
I don't know, I'm just excited even if all they have is the Suzuki Swift Cup

I'd take the Toyota 86, we have an FRS showcar and the handling makes it a blast to drive! Totally a driver's car, not a lot of power, but still!
That's my .02
Congrats on your trip! I can't wait to go!

Scirocco and Golf GTI are pretty much the same car.
I personally would take Toyota GT86, simply because its the only RWD car available.

So I did this very thing just two weeks ago. I returned home Saturday from a 2 week trip in Germany.
I did two laps in an FT 86 and it was fantastic. Gran Turismo of Forza will teach you what corners are where, but nothing will prepare you for how steep the track is. The elevation changes are just incredible.
When I went the weather was cool and it just started raining when I entered the circuit, consequently, the track was slick as snot. I took a measured pace on my first lap and picked it up a bit on my second as the track was starting to dry out. However, I had a scary encounter with a downed motorcycle coming out of Ex-Muhle ( a blind, uphill, right just before Bergwerk) that was lying on the side of the track. A well-fed Frau with a yellow flag was standing next to the cycle (no flags before, I checked my gopro) and I thought I was going to be rear ended by an M3 as I slowed down.
Later, rolling on some throttle coming out of the Karussell, I discovered the track wasn't as dry as I thought as the back end stepped out. Giving that I was responsible for the first $9,000 of damage (yes, $9,000) it was a sobering moment and I was glad to return the car undamaged.
So in summary, have fun but I would advise caution.
