Hyundai Supercar Is on the Drawing Board
Rumor is Hyundai is working on a supercar to rival the Chevy Corvette Z06, Nissan GT-R, Jaguar XK, BMW 650i, Porsche 911 and Cayman.

They've been doing everything else well. I say give it a try.
Now if only they had started a new car brand instead of putting their equus and genesis in their Hyundai line up.

I think Hyundai ought to think a few notches down and simply come out with a well done Genesis Coupe 5.0 to really put them on the enthusiasts map.
The article mentions the lack of a manual cog-swapper that won't grenade itself behind the healthy Tao motor, but I'm sure the good folks at, say, ZF would be more than happy to address that issue. Or, if Hyundai truly is serious about being taken seriously as a serious purveyor of serious performance cars, then they're just going to have to get serious and craft up a suitably serious gearbox themselves (a nice DCT would be so 21st century super/pony car). Seriously.
While all this might seem pie in the sky to some for a company like Hyundai, well, they haven't been paying attention to Hyundai lately who is gushing out one world class car after another these past few years. Translation, I wouldn't put it past them to pop out either a 5.0 Genesis pony car and/or some ultra-ride in the $100K+ range.

Ehh... Sorry but, I doubt anyone would buy a 75k+ Hyundai... White noise in the already saturated market of cars mentioned they're targeting...
Their product has def come a long way... But they just came out with the 'performance coupe' like 2 years ago when they hadn't had anything in decades...
As said, 5.0 coupe would be interesting...

From autoblog:
According to The Wall Street Journal, a seemingly amazing six percent of American Express Centurion "Black Card" holders say they have a Hyundai in their garage. The Centurion is an exclusive card only offered to the utmost wealthiest of people, with the average Black Card holder having $16.3 million in assets and an annual household income of $1.3 million.
For reference, only six percent of Centurion holders own Bentleys.
Hyundai already has a $75,000+ car, it's been on sale for some time now. It's called Equus.

Which "target" are they aiming for? I agree a 5.0 Genesis would be very interesting, if they do it right. Considering their recent cars, I think they would "do it right".

Meh whatever, I will never buy a Hyundai/Kia I just don't trust them. Also the higher ups of the financial world owning them do nothing for me as they have money to burn, and frequently make stupid decisions because they can afford to

They have money to burn, but they don't burn them on stupid stuff - that's why they're rich. Translation: they don't spend $10,000-$20,000 extra because of a Mercedes or BMW badge.

Precisely. This is the exact same demographic which launched Lexus to leading the luxury segment, and which is now starting to desert the brand as competitors like Hyundai come along.

What you fail to mention in the black card analogy is that 54% drive BMW, Mercedes and Lexus- an actual rival of what that looks to be. One can't compare (an avg) 250K+ Bentley vs 65k Hyundai and have it be in the same ball park. Hell It's not even the same sport.
Will they sell some? sure... Will they conquer the segment? Emphatically and Overwhelmingly- No.

Just to be in it you have to a one time fee of 5k and a yearly membership of 2,500. Just to have the "badge" (card). Frivolous is in their dictionary.
