Hello out there. My parents and my partner are considering new cars. Do any of you have an Escape Hybrid? What kind of fuel economy are you really getting?

Cargo Magazine just did a write up on hybrids and they rated the Escape Hybrid as getting 23 mpg. That is not much better than the gas version.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Rogue6

whoa, if they were getting 23mpg, something tells me they weren't driving very intelligently... What i've seen from magazines and stuff are observed mileages around 30mpg.

Yeah, something isn't right. The Escape Hybrid is rated at 36city/31highway.

Hey Rouge6, I recently sold a Hybrid to a couple, and the wife drives for a living. She called me to tell me how much she loves her new vehicle, and she is getting a combined 31 MPG. With this car, it is all how you drive it, and where you drive it at. City traffic is the best for this car, especially if your stuck in traffic. This way the batteries will be running the car more than the gas, as once you go over 25 MPH, the gas kicks back on.

I was a little skeptical at the magazine's reporting, that was why I asked. I understand the technology behind it. I just had not spoken to anybody that drove one on a daily basis.

thanks for the help!

I think Jeff nailed this one on the head! I just took an order for a new Hybrid, but we have delivered 3 or 4 within the past month or so. So far as I know the customers are extremely happy with the mileage.

It's just like any vehicle, it all depends on how the car is driven. Also the battery will assist the gasoline engine when needed to keep the engine rpms to a minimum. And there is also the Continusley Variable Transmission which assist in the gas saving fight

Go take one for a drive, they are really quite awesome and the acceleration is really quite comparable with the V6.
