Heres a question
My father has offered my grandmothers Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera to my wife and I for $1700. It is in absolutely perfect shape and has only 30k on it. The trick is we need to sell my wifes Element then. Now I know the Cutlass is not the most attractive car but my wife has been really unhappy with her Element for the past 5 months. The body rattles a lot, she hates the lack of power and the doors drive her nuts. The olds has the 3.1 V6 in it by the way and when I drove it back from Pitt. it was quiet as could be. The handling really wasn't mushy at all, about the same as the Element and the power was pretty decent too.
So what do ya'll think? Remember that this extra money from selling her car would boost us a lot closer to buying a home faster.
Also how much hp/trq does the 3.1 have?
Thanks,
Andy

Thank you Dave. That's what I was thinking in a way. Another plus is that once we do get a house my wife wants an 06-07 Mustang for us to drive daily. This would certainly help us along. I appreciate the advice!
I'd get the Olds and drive it for now; the fact that it'll help you get into a new home is the top-selling reason in my book too. What year is the car? I had the 3100 V6 in my '93 Grand Prix and loved that engine to death. It wasn't terribly powerful but it felt like it had a decent amount of low end. Always liked the 3100-series exhaust note, too. Horsepower/torque specs on that motor were 140/185, I think.
If you didn't know the car's history and it had a lot of miles, I'd advise against it, but in this case I think you can count on it.

Well I guess I will ask the obvious, does the wife like the Olds, has she driven it? Because I know if I made that kind of decision for my girlfriend without her input I would not only get yelled at but whacked most likely. Some food for thought.
P.S. Remember what Jeff Foxworthy says:
If she is unhappy, you are unhappy. If she is unhappy long enough, you are unhappy with half your stuff.
P.P.S. Having your own home sooner, however, is a BIG plus.
