Having the cake and eating it too, BMW 1M Coupe

BMW 1M Coupe (Coup-a)

http://jalopnik.com/5729460/bmw-1-se...ahn-blitzkrieg

So 0-60 in 4.7? 340 Hp. So just in case all are worried, a lower powered Mustang can produce these numbers so all you Hp junkies, may need not worry, the performance is out there. Let's not get caught up in the how much more horsepower can it have if the overall performance is the goal.

This will really throw a monkey wrench in my decision when it comes time.

I like it probasbly more than the M3, but still needs about 100 more HP! What good is a car though that can't be goaded into a mid corner seat cushion sucking 720 with just a slight prod on the gas

Far less cheese than an M3. And it comes with a 50% douche repellent, a 6sp manual.

I have a good friend who has a 135. He hates it. I know it's not the same car, but the DNA is the same.

What exactly does he hate about it?

A 135i coupe is on my shortlist of cars for whenever we're ready (hopefully later this year)...... but not an M; to much $$ for the difference in performance IMO.

The 1M may be the least overpriced of the 1-series line as compared to the (overpriced) 3-Series, but it's still crazy overpriced in this land we call reality. Just cheeses me off that BMW would create the 1-series as a near-perfect entry-level RWD BMW and then completely price it out of the entry level market.

Don't like the look of the 1 Series at all. Too Girly in my books.

Mostly the size and how it handles in rain and snow. He also complains about how expensive everything is that isn't covered by the maintenance plan. The car isn't a year old and has already needed two rear tires and an alignment. And the ride is brutal. The combination of run flats and sports suspension is not good.

For that type of scratch, I'd get a lightly used S5 instead.

This car looks like it's trying too hard.

47K is laughable.
And It's pretty beefy for a 1 series... 3300lbs, driverless...

Next.

The way BMW's depreciate, there may be some bargains next year or two....you know how many of these things are leased.

I swear BMW trains their techs to purposely ignore/mess up the rear alignment in some fashion. I know a guy with an M3 that went through 3 sets of rear tires before the BMW guys finally realized a rear bushing was bad.

I agree with your statement entirely. Even Mini, which is an entry level BMW in my book, is priced up with a 1 series. I'm not blown away by the $47K sticker, I'm blown away that the 1 series starts at a ridiculous $29,450, for a 128i, that's only $1500 less than what I paid for a fully loaded pre-owned 335i.

At least I'd pay full price for a new Mustang and know I'm getting my money's worth, even with my faults of some cheap interior parts.

The 1M does look like a very nice ride, a very nice $40K and change ride but at $47K base, that's just too much. A similarly priced Boss 302 will likely obliterate these, at least in terms of pure numbers, and even a regular 5.0 would be a close race for way less.

Yes, I fully appreciate the overall higher level of features and refinement a BMW offers, but only up to a point and that $47K tag I think exceeds that point by at least $5K. Were BMW to have kept the price close to $40K, they may have had a very compelling car, at $47K they have a rather interesting car that will probably appeal primarily to a limited set of "gotta have" BMW aficionados.

While BMWs are great cars overall, I think their overall value is being eroded by their too high pricing, both at the showroom floor and especially, for parts and service later on which can result in a death of a thousand cuts to the wallet in terms of the ownership experience.
