does anyone else agree with me that the new GTO would have sold alot better if it wasnt called a "GTO"? i personally think it stopped alot of people from looking at the car the way itt should be assesd, most people including myself reacted the same way the first time we ever saw a picture of it... "thats a GTO? Looks like a hooked up grand prix!"
if GM wasnt going to go with the resto-mod/retro look, y did they bring back a long extinct name?
so what do you think, would it have been a completely different story if it were called something else? (and i mean an name not some boring designation i.e. G6, XLS or something selse stupid)

welp I gotta agree..if the gto was brought over and called the Monaro or monaro GT i think it would have sold fine..but calling it the gto was a nail in it's coffin for sure. The GTO is actually a fine car and has a fantastic interior. I always said if i got one I'd rip the pontiac crap iff it and turn it back into the Monaro with the correct body panels and such then take the GTO badge off it.

I think Monaro is too much like Camaro.

They should have marketed it as the GrandPrix coupe or something to that effect.

maybe not caling it a grand prix because then it might not be looked at like a muscle car, and not even a monaro, just a new name, fro a new car (at least in the american market).
anyone got any ideas for a cool name?
its just dissapointing its a nice car, but everyime i think gto i just shake my head

Actually, if they had come out with the GTO and the Sport Appearance Package, 18" wheels, and LS2 were standard for the same price point I think they would have been fine.

I don't think it didn't sell because of the name at all. I think it was way overpriced and it just didn't look good at all. Every car goes through a cosmetic design change and they just didn't get it right. Plus, did they have a v6 version to help sells at all?

yah, but why would you buy a GTO V-6???? It is a muscle car, and should be treated as one IMO

Thats actually a very good point! A v6 version would have been alot cheaper and a good entry car for them, but I think the brillant minds over in the Pontiac marketing wanted the "GTO" to be the Pontiac halo vehicle, and having a v6 version wouldnt work for them. But at the same time it should never have been named GTO, maybe Tempest, or something else.

Yeah, I think a nice short name like...

We want to ride Ford's retro coat tails by exhuming an old skeleton and giving it an unrecognizable body so that we can pay our rears in the "Grand______" business.
