GTO dead?
I got the latest Motor Trend and in the new camaro article they say that since the camaro is a go that the GTO will be dropped.
Not sure where they got the info but thats what they are saying.

Well, if the GTO is a goner, then I believe it could only mean the return of the Firebird/Trans Am. I mean, it seems like a logical move on Pontiac's part to fill in the void...that and with the return of the Camaro, it just seems natural to me.

Well holden already moved on with the monaro on a new platform. What did I say before about a camaro? Look for a global coupe platform to skin into one. Guaranteed they will decontent the new Monaro platform for a Camaro. Something tells me if GM even magically does pull this out its butt, the closest sales ratio to mustangs is still going to be from long ago history. They'll screw the pooch on it. You will never be able to feel the 'heart' built into the design like you can the new Mustang.
I agree, Kevin. And I won't mourn the passing of the GTO. Good performance although I thought it was a little too pricey. The styling caused its poor sales. The original Goat wasn't beautiful, but it was distinctive. I was around in that era and I drove a few. Fast for it's time but only in a straight line. Terrible handling, sloppy steering, and weak brakes, especially in the rain. Today's GTO is a much better car but it's as boring as a filibuster in the Senate.
Pontiac stole the name from Ferrari but they didn't steal the soul. And that's what the current GTO lacks. For that sin of omission it deserves to die a natural death.

That's so true! That's one of my turn offs about the GTO. For the styling, it doesn't look that bad...I mean its modern looking, but it just doesn't scream American Muscle, compared to the Mustang and upcoming Camaro and Challenger. It looks too much like an import. But then again, you have to take into account that it is really a refined Australian car underneath, but just rebadged for American consumers. I think it probably would have done just as well or maybe even better had Pontiac left it as a Monaro.

I don't know what Pontiac was thinking naming that car GTO and if they stop now, it will just be leaving the car's reputation somewhat marred. Beauty is not just on the inside when it comes to cars. They need to reinvent the GTO, not stuff an engine into a cookie-cutter car
