H2 is a joke because i see maybe three of them a day going from my house to my school downtown. I think the H3 is sweet cause the morons driving those things don't take up as much space when they're doing it. All due respect to anyone on this board who owns a hummer and actually makes use of its off road potential.

I agree Jeff. The H2 is obnoxious. I see them mostly in the drive-through at Starbucks. I'd bet the actual percentage of H2s that are used off-road is miniscule.

The H2 looks way out of proportion. Tried to fit a hummer into a suburban sized vehicle. At least the H3 looks "normal" ... I actually like the H3.

Ya even ignoring what they're used for... I'd say the H3 just looks a lot better than the H2. I think it'd be cool if they went ahead with the H4 to compete with the wrangler.

When I started thinking about buying an SUV, I looked into the H3. I liked the look and the size but I discounted it for the same reason as the Explorer (larger than I needed and gas mileage was poorer than I wanted). I just couldn't justify either one so I bought the Escape.

I like both of them but I would never purchase either of them for the fact of major reliability issues.

You have that quite backwards. The H3's size and pricing makes it actually useful for off-road purposes. The H2 is an overpriced 3500-series Suburban (on which it is actually based) for people who want to project the "tough guy" image to make up for whatever shortcomings they feel they have, real or imagined. People who simply want to win the "mine's bigger" suburbanite driveway contest with no intention of taking said vehicle anywhere more off-road intensive than perhaps cutting across a median while talking on their cell-phone AND drinking an iced coffee.

The only real problem with the H3 is that it's saddled with a joke of an engine.

Agreed. Not enough engine for the 4,700lb curb weight.

Various neighbours around me have all of the different hummers. My order of preference, from the lowest is: H3, H2, H2 SUT, H1

H3 is nothing but overpriced Chevrolet Colorado. I would never spend $30,000 on 220-hp SUV; heck, my F-150 is more powerfull than that, it was a lot cheaper and I'm pretty sure its better off-road vehicle than H3.
H2 its not that much more expensive than Suburban. H2 cost $52,000, Suburban (with 4x4 and 6.0l) cost $42,000. So $10,000, that is pretty much same difference between Colorado and H3.

Okay, so the price gap from Chevy to Hummer derivative is similar. But I fail to see what that proves, and more specifically, what in my post that addresses. Really it's something of a red herring, the price difference between the Hummer (H2, or H3) and it's Chevrolet basis isn't relevant at all really. Look at the price difference between the two Hummers, just using the straight numbers from your post for the sake of argument, that's a $22,000 price difference rather noticable if you ask me. As for one being better than the other off-road, I'll admit I can't speak from personal experience, but Motor Trend seemed exceedingly impressed with the H3 on a rock-climbing expedition, for what it's worth. As for the 220hp, I believe I addressed that already, no need to go further into that (hint: no one loves the I-5).

And, just to delve into the pricing issue a little more, you don't consider $10k "much more" than a fairly similar vehicle?? And I would argue, with the greater inherent differences between the Colorado and H3 that the price difference is better justified at that level. The H2 is still ridiculously huge, and I see little reason to justify it's pricetag premium beyond a desire to showoff. Or because you really, REALLY
like that yellow Hummer has...

My point is that there is exactly same difference in price between H2 & Suburban and H3 & Colorado. So why would H2 be a joke, and H3 not? Why is overpriced Suburban bad vehicle but overpriced Colorado is not?

OFF TOPIC:
you know what's funny? the two guys arguing right now are members number 74 and 75! so cool.... however one has a million posts and the other has barely any.

Zoran and Q'res are totally the same person!

Ya other than the under powered engine, i've heard the H3 is a solid off-roader.

Me too. That truely is the off-road beast, and you don't see them on roads too often.
