Guys, I don't mean to throw a monkey wrench in the greatness of all of our cars, but I ran into a very interesting situation the other day while trying to register my car. Ford made a BOO BOO and put two VIN numbers on my car!!! I can not even register my car because the VIN number in my windshield does not match the VIN on my title. Has anyone run across this, and if so, please render your advice. Brad, you may have some insight on this. Thanks!

So where's the second VIN on the vehicle besides the one in the windshield?

The mistake could be on your dealers end. Did they have any other 05 Mustangs there or coming soon?

The second vin is on the door panel. That is the one that is on title, but the one in the windshield does not exist. I cannot find the car on Carfax or anywhere. The one on the panel shows up all over the place. I work for an automobile manufacturer, so I know that this is not something to take lightly. Theoretically, I could be locked up as of today due to my temporary tag having being expired and my car looks as if I got it from a CHOP SHOP!! I want a new vehicle. Who is to say that the car didn't come from the scrap pool? I have not heard from the ford rep that I have been calling for the past two or three days. I love Ford cars and I do not want to drag them the mud, but they are going to have to make this right!

I remember something similar happened a couple of years ago with an early 2003 Marauder. But the error wasn't caught until the original owner tried to sell the car. Prosepective buyers were very suspicious. Don't know what the final resolution was, though...

When VIn #s and titles get messed up, its best to get this resolved quickly. I'd mention this to the dealer as well, since they are the ones that did the paperwork, and should have caught it/
