An engineering firm that has been doing development work on a Ford GT, reported that on their chassis dyno, a "well broke in" Ford GT made 565 horsepower to the rear wheels. They went on to say that the car was hazing the tires on the dyno and they believed the real numbers are quite a bit higher.

For those counting, 565 rwhp = 655 at the flywheel, assuming 16% loss.

I think some of Dodge's money is sitting in Motor Trend's bank account.
Where did they get the curb weights for the cars in the specs list, anyway? The Viper weighs 3380 lbs. (only a 20 lb. mistake), but I thought the GT was supposed to weigh around Corvette territory if not lighter.

I'm not really sure. Comparisions are really useless, unless it was the same driver under the same circumstances. With that said, Motor Trend has the ability to make me angry sometimes.

ahah!!! I knew it.
I called it in the 550hp thread. I just knew it had to be making more than 550 crank hp. As for why Motor Trend's GT was so close to the Viper? Well i can guess at several reasons.
1) Motor Trend can't drive.
2) Bad conditions on test day(its possible). I dont believe the article ever said that the cars were run on the same day at the same place.
And this is by far the most important one in my mind:
3) That test was from the January issue, which most of us received in early to mid-December. Given this and knowing that MT has about a two month lead time on its magazines, that test coulnd't have happened much later than mid-October, maybe very early November. Thus the GT they drove would have been a mid-run prototype. That test would have happened about the same time that ppl heard that the new L engine was making up to 550 hp, before the SuperCooler. There were rumors then that the GT team was going to tweak the engine a bit so it could top the Lightning. Apparently those rumors were true and then some. So it would not surprise me in the least if the GT that was tested in Motor Trend was only making about 500 at the crank, perhaps a bit more.
If all of this turns out to be true, which I fully believe it is, I could see the GT knocking on the Enzo's back door, for a half million less. :worship: :worship: Ford

I believe the car they compared to the SRT Viper was before they increased the HP. I believe I read on another board that the GT was sent back to get some more power just in case the anything comes close to it the next 2-3 years. (Rumors of the next Z06 being 500 HP,3000-3100Lbs and 60K.)
