What's the story about this car? Is Ford gonna produce them, or will it be just another cool concept that was never produced?

Will Ford make a V-10 large sedan named 427? No.
But the Ford Fusion will have styling cues from this when it launches, the Emergency Redesign of the 500 will include a more 427-ish front and rear, and if Ford decides to build a new large-sedan platform (ie FINALLY ditches the panther platform the Crown Vic sits on), it will mostly likely look abit like 427.

For some reason, the rear reminds me of the Bentley Continental GT...

yup, i get that too.

So in detroit in january, ford's probably gonna show off the Fusion. You think they'll have anything to do with the crown vic or its replacement then?

All the Ford sedans will resemble the 427 in about 3 years...

the Fusion will be somewhere between the 427 and Taurus in terms of design

The 500 will have a freshening to bring some elements of the 427 concept to it

The next gen Focus will look somewhere between the next gen Euro Focus and 427 (story here: the Euro Focus will be a new gen in a few months, than the gen after that will be sold both here and Europe. Meanwhile we keep the same Focus)

So, short answer...No, but a lot of cars from Ford will look like it...

Edit: Almost forgot...we will get a new Falcon-based Crown Vic in (I think) 2008

i summed up all the ford entries from Motor Trend's future vehicle forcast in this thread:
http://forums.bradbarnett.net/index.php?sh...6059&hl=forcast

some of the stuff conflicts with itself, so i dunno if motor trend is really right all the time, but it gives you an idea of where they're headed.

Ok I know Ford has some ownership in Mazda but why is there an RX-8 in that line up of concept cars for the ford display in the last pic?

Because that picture is several years old. It was taken before the RX-8 even hit dealer lots, I believe.

This pic is few years old. Ford 427 Concept was introduced at the same time when Ford Mustang Concept was introduced ... so you do the math.

Big Boy, the reason they have that there is because it is a Ford owned product. If you look closer, between the yellow F150 and the Lincoln concept, sits the Aston Martin Vanquish, they had all their new cars that were available.

Let's see, the best way to put it...

Ford's 427 concept is a "concept" in the truest sense of the word. The car itself will not be produced, BUT it sets a standardized design theme which the ENTIRE lineup of future Ford SEDANS (and wagon variants) will follow.

Design cues, such as the tri-bar grille, are evident in the upcoming Ford Fusion, though the Fusion is designed with a sleeker, more rounded design theme.

I have a feeling that the first re-design of the Five Hundred will follow similarly to the Fusion, but placing more emphasis on elegance instead of athletic muscle.

The 2006 (2007?) Fairlane, from what I can surmise so far, will follow the 427 two-box design theme much more closely. I'd also expect the same for the 2008 Crown Vic, albeit more conservative.

Again, largely speculation, but that's how I see the scheme of things playing out over the next 3 years.
