They're about 15 years too late.

That's what Land Rover is for. They're even owned by the same company, and LR uses the Jag engines. I don't see the point.

I really like it. They posted pics from the unveiling on instagram about 30 minutes ago.

If they do, that's new. The Land Rover V8 was a lump that was used in other cars like the Morgan Plus 8 and put out all of about 200 HP. The first generation Jaguar XK8 ('98 on for several years) had a 4.0L DOHC V8 that put out 290/290.

Lol ummm not in the past 15 years. Prior to Jag/Ford engineered engines, they used BMW V8s.

My turn to LOL. Google Land Rover V8 engines and you will learn that the Land Rover V8 started life as the Buick 215, the tooling for which was purchased from GM by Land Rover in 1965. Rover originally produced it as a 3.5L and used it in the Range Rover from 1970-1989 and in the Discovery from 1989-2004. The 3.9/4.0L was used in the Range Rover from 1989-2003. In 1996 they bumped it to 4.6L and used it in the Range Rover and the Discovery. They continued to produce the engine until 2005. The 3.5L produced 158 HP, the 4.0 190, and the 4.6 225.

Ok, so the last 10* years, not 15. Point is - Land Rover *now* uses almost exclusively Jaguar engines, which were mostly engineered when they were both owned by Ford.

That is true. The bigger issue to me is the absurdity of every marque having to have an SUV. I recall when GM still had all of its product line and Cadillac had to have not just an SUV, but a pickup truck as well. A Cadillac pickup truck????? Now that's ridiculous.

Why is that an issue? SUVs/Crossovers are still very popular and still bring big profits.

I actually like Escalade pickup better than Escalade SUV.

By the way, Lincoln also sells a luxury pickup truck, Mark LT (in Mexico).

I guess I've just always viewed pickup trucks as being utilitarian. I just can't see the owner of a Cadillac pickup using it to pick up a load of manure. To me it makes as much sense as the guys who buy these big, jacked up, four-wheel drive, off-road pickup trucks and never take them off of pavement

They will probably never use it for that, but might use it for things like this ...
