Evo VII
I got to actually drive (for a good extended period of time, and got on it a few times) my boyfriends 05 Mitsubishi Evo 8... it's his baby... runs 12.0 quarter miles at the track, exhaust, afc, cams (of course it's stock turbo too)
wow it's fast. I loved it. All wheel drive was awesome. i actually think thats the first turbo car i have ever driven.
If i could have 2 cars an Evo would definitley be #2!! Although it's waaaay faster than my GTs i still love the stang the most though
anyone else gotten to play in an Evo?

Roller skate with a rocket engine ... I wouldn't spend the money. Yeah they go like heck but they're uncomfortable, cramped and I don't particularly like the ride. They're good for the price though.
Besides that, my personal preference is for a big V8 and plenty of room with a cushy leather seat. But yeah, if that's your thing, it's one of the best of its kind. I would mostly worry about whether Mitsu is going to be around five years from now heh

I don't like the design of the Lancer myself, but a couple weeks ago when I visited my friends up north, I got several rides in one friend's '05 WRX STi. Now that is a fun car. It sounded way better than I expected, too. I may just put the STi on my list of possible cars to consider buying, but I still think I'd miss that V8 sound and coupe roofline too much...
I don't get the appeal of the Evo or WRX STi. First of all they are four-door cars that nobody but those wanting a thrill ride are ever actually going to want to be passengers in. Put simpy they ride poorly.... really poorly truth be told
Everybody talks about how great they handle, and they do, and credits it to the awd but has anybody ever suspected it could have something to do with the rock-hard suspension or incredibly hard-core tires? I have always wondered how much handling would deteriorate if you gave it a more compliant suspension and less extreme tires.
Many performance cars that are far more comfortable than these two could go a long way toward closing any handling gap by switching to near-Autocross spec tires and rock hard springs and bushings like these cars use. I could see this kind of suspension setup as an option, but stnadard it just makes me say no way.
And yes, they do accelerate quite fast but stock they aren't that much faster than a well-driven 05 Mustang GT stock for stock. You hear rumours of both cars breaking into the high 12's stock and very rarely you might see it. But, the clutch is going to hate you for the abuse those kind of acceleration times require in these little awd, cars. More often than not these are mid to low 13 second cars in stock trim although most would appear to be modded to be fair.
Of the Evo's only the RS makes sense to me as a package. This is more or less the "Cobra R" setup of Mitsubishi's lot so I expect the harsh ride, etc. here. However, with Mitsu cancelling the warranty on these things if their brother's cousin heard from his roomate that you saw an Autocross event once I would still take a pass. For the money their are better options than both the STi and Evo MR IMHO.
My vote? If you are going to mod the car anyway and want a four door get the far better looking Volvo S40T5 awd for roughly STi or Evo MR money and tweak away. Sure, it has less hp stock but no less potential with it's turbo 5cyl so if you really are going to mod the car this makes no real difference. And, the car is livable day to day with people over the age of 25 possibly even enjoying the ride as passengers. Did I mention that the Volvo has the added benefit of not looking like a circus wagon?

u only say this cause u hate the car open ur mind and look at other cars and not just domesticsSure, the large holes in the front fascia and hood and the huge rear wing the MR and standard VIII carry all add function in one way or another. However, it's pretty obvious that the designers at Mitsubishi went well out of their way to make them as obvious and as ostentatious as they could manage. If this over the top styling appeals to you then go for it. To my eye, these cars are tacky at best and garish at worst.
Cars can be just as functional and racy without resorting to such extreme design measures. Take a look at the BMW M3, or the last generation the 300ZX or RX7 for that matter (oops, hold on...I forgot that I can't see past domestics
Perhaps you should open your mind and understand that others may find cars you like tacky because they actually feel that they are tacky.

they have leather Recaros, how are they uncomfortable??

And, Recaro's themselves can be fairly uncomfortable depending on what kind you have. However, the problem with the comfort level in the Evo and WRX has little to do with the seats and far more to do with their ride...especially on rough roads.
at 50 in fourth, the Evo get's outdragged by a 1.8L family car to 70 (no downshifting)............ But it can also keep up with a Lambo Murchi around a curcuit. That says it all, the car is only good when the turbo is spinning, you miss the powerband by 400 revs and you are bogged. (comparisons taken from Top Gear)

just because YOU find a car tacky doesnt mean everyone else will...ur just mad cause the evo can hold its own to the mustang..

Also, I never said the Evo couldn't hold it's own against a Mustang GT. In most respects the Evo is faster, in some cases much faster. People do tend to over-rate how fast these cars accelerate in a straight line (in stock trim anyway) but Im still not mad about it.
I also sauid that the Lancer was turned into a pretty extreme everyday driver to go as fast as it does in Evo trim....and it was (and is) I also said that I don't see the appeal as these are four door cars that don't make very passenger cars or look very good for that matter. This kind of package would have made much more sense on a well done Eclipse IMO. Still not mad though.
And, I never said everyone found the Evo tacky, as I recall I said just the opposite. Although, I think it is a pretty safe bet that the average person would tell you that the Evo is tacky. But you know what, I'm still not mad.
Just out of curiousity, how old are you?

You aren't serious...are you? I have owned two cars with Recaros and have no idea how you are reasoning this one out. Recaro's in general are nice (again, I have had two cars with them), but this alone makes a car comfortable? So how the car rides has nothing to do with it? This is akin to sayin "It has a blower, how is it slow?" One aspect is not all there is to it.

Heck, the GT500 concept employs a fairly large rear wing, large grille, etc....and manages to be a drop dead good looking show stopper in the process without looking like it was styled in some Junior High Schools Study Hall.
