Check out this link. I'm a little hesitant to believe it.

Might we see an electric motor in a Mustang in 20-30 years?

Believe it. Coreless electric motors mounted directly to the rear wheels have been discussed before. No drivetrain loss. "Instant on" torque.
That's like asking if we'll have flying cars by 2050.

We need better batteries for electric cars to become more common. Batteries with lower weight, better capacity, faster recharging and longer life. Is anyone working on improving battery technology?

With all of Ford's woes, if they don't get their acts together they may not even be around in four more years.

This better be about sound, cause if its the performance you're worried about, you gotta drop your prejudices. I just spent all last week driving the hybrid and electric snowmobiles i've been working on all year at the SAE Clean SNowmobile Challenge, and I can tell you that electric motors enjoy accelerating vehicles. Our hybrid was the beast of the two, although not quite as refined, still sorta in the testing stages, so we had it limited to about half of max current. And yet we were still keeping up with the gas powered sleds in the acceleration event. Well... there were a few that were pretty insane, but we were not too far off from the pack.
Now if its the lack of a nice V8 growl your complaining about, I can understand, but I can also say that, while its different, electric motors make some pretty cool noise too.

So by that logic, all those people driving V6 'stangs are a disgrace? And everyone with a turbo-4 fox Mustang is a disgrace? And the guys who race turbo 'Stangs in NHRA events are a disgrace? Care man, my Dad's a proud V6 driver...

Instant and constant torque is the cool thing about an electric motor such as this. With no torque curve you don't need additional gears. That saves alot of weight and complexity. I really admire the efforts of people who engineer cool products like this one--often at great personal risk. However, I not ready yet to give up my V8.

Uhh...have you seen my sig? It's a 4-banger which a love very much! I wasn't trying to say mustangs without a V8 are a disgrace, just that when most people (ones who aren't diehard mustang fanatics) hear "mustang" they immidiately think "V8"! Or at least most of them in my experince. I have absolutely nothing wrong with any of the stangs you described as I love EVERY mustang. Even the ones most people hate, such as the IIs, or the 4cyls like mine! I was just trying to say that it would ruin the mustang name if ford put an electric motor in the mustang. Or at least imo!
