i have a perfect driving record and that was for full coverage
im looking into other places because i think thats insane
they said after 3 years driving experience (october 06) my insurance will drop about $1,000
if this remains to be a problem im registering it in my dads name untill i get 3 years experience

No way man, insurance can't be that high for a 16-year-old Mustang. I got my Mustang 4 years ago. At that time I was 17 and Mustang was only 1 year old. My insurance was $1,200/year.

Exactly. I was 17, Mustang was 1 year old. Now I'm almost 21 and Mustang is 5 years old. Insurance is now even lower, around $950/year.

I use Erie insurance. Take a look at them too. I've had them for over 4 years and they are great!

I use Geico, although they aren't the cheapest. All I have is liability on my 92 Explorer and it's about 900 a year. The three year thing works like this, as long as you don't have anything in your last 3 years (no matter what happened before then), you are fine, but since you haven't been driving 3 years, that is the problem(even if your driving record is perfect). At least that is the experience I had. If you dad will co-sign on it, sounds like you could save a lot of $.

Very true. I was always on my own policy, my parents didn't want me to be on theirs but yes a cosign will save you some money. I pay about 2k a year for full collision and all the bells and whistles for my 99.

It sounds like you can't really afford what you want right now. So buy something cheap and save up your money until you can...like when you're out of college and have a good job.
I've been driving my '85 Caprice for five years now - it's a decent car, but I'd like something new. Even though I'll be starting a great job and will be able to afford some nice cars, I'll probably just keep mine for two more years until I'm 25. I'll be able to buy some other stuff until then(bikes, audio equipment, etc) and save up some money until taking the plunge. Insurance will be lower when I turn 25, and I'll be able to afford something even nicer.
Don't rush into something you can't afford. Just my opinion.
