Has anyone noticed that Ford had the fastest pick up on the planet and never used that info to tout thier trucks and now that dodge has it they use "worlds fastest truck" in ever freaking commercial.

makes them sounds like a little baby to me. Like a guy that has finally after centuries of trying beat his oponant and now thinks he's hot stuff. If they can consistantly do it then cool but you know what as it stands now they soound like little children.

no i don't think so..ford had never had a problem selling those trucks..they were always known. Hence the reason Dodge felt they needed to go for the record.

What really cheeses me is they make it sound like it killed the lighting when in reality it was only about 6-7 mph faster. I don't consider that a slaughtering. But heck the way dodge makes a big deal out of it you'd think they just put a ram on the moon.

i think the avg joe probably has no idea what a lightning is. they could have had bragging rights and didnt exercise them. isnt that what marketing is... making yourself sound good.

well I'd say your right except ford didn't need the lightning to sell F150's no need to tout it like that. The lightning sld exactly like ford wanted it to and the F-150 basic truck sold better and has sold better than anyone else.

I just think Dodge is desperate and trying to prove something.

On a side note..ford set the record with 380 Hp or so and dodge needed 500 to beat it heheheh and it wasn't even beaten by that much. Those wacky dodge guys...when will they learn.

naturally aspirated always wins in my book.

just like the zr-1. in 94 it had 405 hp and was the fastest thing u could get w/o a supercharger or turbo.... like a 911 turbo or something... and it cost like 1/3 as much.

just figure if u really wanted to you can supercharge anything... why not start with a fast car/truck before you supercharge it? but that's just me.

Dodge commercials do bother me too. Even though, I know that no car company is going to advertise their short comings.

I think the one that bugs me the most is the one with the Ram that pulls the F-Series out of the way, while it's parked. Ummm... I'd be willing to bet that most full size pick-ups could do that that to each other all day long.

Just like a few mag articles I have read have stated. Their "fastest production truck" will not stay on top for long.

Ford will rise again...

Hmm... I for one think the horsepower wars for the sport trucks are rather silly...

How about Dodge bringing back a 2door coupe with RWD and a V8?...

So 911 Turbos cost $180,000 in 1994?

Chrysler, of late, has always been good at marketing specialty vehicles.
Look at the Viper, Prowler, and PT Cruiser.

I believe that this is why Diamler Benz bought them. I thought they were very smart there. I wonder why Ford did not make an offer? Or did they? Ford has expanded with Mazda, Jaguar, Aston Martin, Volvo, and Range Rover.

For me, Chrysler and their ads are not worth my attention. Just another foreign car now. I hate my money (profits) going to Germany. :notnice:

For the cost difference I can use the extra money to 'Hot Rod' the Lightning, which would then kill the Ram R/T, and still be able to tow a boat!

BTW - A 1994 Porsche 911 Turbo had an MSRP of ~$134,000. Still quite a bit more than a ZR-1.

Sorry, it was just an extremely egregious exaggeration.

WOW! Eleven syllables in three words. There's got to be an award for that.
But I have to agree with Burningman. Ford didn't have to advertise the Lightning. I think it's because they didn't want every idiot speed freak to have "the world's fastest" truck. Watch the insurance rates go up for a pickup now.

Doesn't Dodge know, the new Lightning will destroy the SRT-10 in performance. It will have atleast 500HP. B)

I wouldn't be boasting about performance that much now, because Ford will beat them for good when the new Lightning is realesed.

You know how things works

You're been losing all of the time (Ram to F-Series). When you finally beat big opponent, you got to let everyone know. Even if its gonna last for only 1 year (until Ford introduces new Lightning), its once in the lifetime chance and you gotta let everyone know.
