The Challenger R/T will have 425HP Hemi. Is Ford planning to increase the HP for the Mustang GT? I also understand that Mustang will be remade for 2009 model year?

No plans for upping the GT so far, and I wouldn't say remade, but remodeled. Like say visual changes and such.

It's more likely the R/T will get the 350HP Hemi. They'll save the 425HP version for the SRT8.

As for the GT, there have been rumors of a HP bump in '07 but not how much.

Why? While he mentions the Challenger, his questions were regarding the Mustang.

Is Dodge actually going to produce the Challenger?
As far as I know - the pics that wrere leaked were of a concept model.

ya, its just a concept, but there's a lot to suggest DC will actually build this car. Its totally feasible for one thing, they've got the platform and the engines. They've got a name with a cache like the mustang, maybe not quite as famous... And they've got a market segment that's being dominated by its cross town rival. I say it'll happen.

The SRT8 is a very cool ride, but it's price is well north of what you can get a Mustang GT for. If I remember correctly, base for an SRT8 is around 39k. That puts it closer to a GT500 Shelby. While an SRT8 has significantly more creature comforts, doesn't the extra 125 hp get negated by the extra weight? I thought I'd read a comparison in performance between the SRT8 and a manual Mustang GT that found comparable performance.

If they do build it, it better have a REAL tranny in it, none of this autostick only junk, real men want 3 pedals on the floor!

Bear in mind that the Challenger will most likely be at least 500 to 800 pounds heavier than the Mustang GT, so the added HP will have to motivate a heavier vehicle.......

The Challenger will be huge, heavy and expensive:

Projected weight: 4,100 lb (and usually the weight increases from a concept car to a production car)

length 198" - 10" longer than the Mustang
width ~6" wider
Height ~3" higher
Price $35K

The Hemi Challenger will not be a competitor for the Mustang GT. It will compete with future Special Edition Mustangs.

It appears that the Challenger will be lined up more with the GTO in terms of size. Hopefully with all this extra mass it will have a usable rear seat and trunk.

There will probably be 3.5l, 5.7l and 6.1l, just like 300, Magnum and Charger.

You use the brake? Parking brake at a 100mph....now that's fun!

Yea, from what we've been told.....it's a 6 spd with a pistol grip shifter.

That's reaching into the high price range most likely. Just like the GTO that has 450...Ford isn't building the stock GT to compete with that. Those are more in the SVT's range and competition bracket if you ask me.
