This isn't looking to good. The drivers coming out of that meeting look awful somber.

Confirmed that he has died from his injuries. RIP.
Stunned. Just...stunned.
What a year for him, winning the Indy 500, doing testing for the new car coming in... Things were really looking to be better for next year...
I'm just... wow.

Wheldon's car became ensnarled in a fiery crash near Lap 13, flew over another vehicle and landed in a catch fence just outside turn 2.

Drivers, including Dan Wheldon (77, in air at left), crash during a wreck that involved 15 cars during the IndyCar Series' auto race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Las Vegas on Sunday, Oct. 16, 2011.[/COLOR]

They should have never been racing at that track with the speeds those cars are capable of, especially that many in the starting grid. Especially when you add in the publicity stunt of him starting in the back and if he wins he gets 2.5 million and a fan gets 2.5 million. How would you like to be the fan that was chosen for that?

I've been going to the Indy 500 every year since '98 and saw Wheldon's first win in person and we flew the Union Jack out the car window after he won. I missed last years race for the first time, but I went crazy when he won in the final turn. As a fellow Brit along with my dad and brother we rooted for him and Franchitti every year and during the season. I've never seen a more horrific crash in any racing and I'm crying like a family member died. I thought I'd feel better after sleeping it off but not the case at all. Such a huge loss for IndyCar and all of motorsports, unfortunately it's the reality of open wheel racing on high speed ovals. They're lucky more drivers weren't lost in the accident the way the cars took off one after the other.
