Dad Bought a 1985 Toyota Celica GT
My dad bought a 1985 Toyota Celica GT that his friend sold for $400. His wife was the main driver, so it most likely hasn't been pushed to much in its life.
It has 170,000 in the odometer, but it still runs strong. He picked me up yesterday from the airport, and it was running in the 80'smph smoothly.
It's a 4cyl RWD car, and the paint is a faded blue metallic.
There are no dings, scratches, or rust. The interior is complete, although the dashboard is cracking a bit.
It does drip a bit of power steering
My dad is hoping to fix the car up a bit. New paint, new wheels, maybe a few exterior mods. The engine is pretty clean and working great, so he'll be working on that as neccesary.
Let's just hope this project comes out better than the CobraII that he lost because of a stupid mechanic.
It doesnt look like much from this crappy photo I took, but the shape is awesome.
He wants it in red (I would like to see it in a two-tone, but it's not my car lol), so it might look something like this after he is done with it (except for the wheels)
For wheels, he is going with the originals, or some RS Watanabes (most likely the originals because of $$$)

Yea, same here. I had just posted my like for the 80's RWD Toyos in that Camry flame thread about 4-5 days ago.
He asked me on Friday if I could lend him 100 bucks, which I did without a question. Didn't know he was going to buy a car with it lol. Hey, I'm a 25% owner of the car! As long as I don't let him pay me back.
I hope to help out some with the fixing

AE86's are awesome... but this isnt one of those Those are Corollas
The Celica is exactly like the Celica/Supra of the same year, but the Celica has a different front end, and the Celica/Supra has a V6. After '85, the name changed to just Supra.
I agree though, I also like the Celica/Supra model better
Here's an '85 Celica/Supra

Sounds like a great idea! But I think the 85 Celica is just one year from being an easy 2jz swap... I've seen 1986-1990 Supra's with the 2jz, but havent seen a 1983-1985 Celica/Supra with it.
If you find anything on it though, please make sure to post it... I am highly interested. I'll be doing my own searches as well.
And my dad would be weary of an engine swap, because of what happened with his CobraII
He was going to drop a stronger V8 into it, but the mechanic just ruined the car completely

Nice!!!
Conrgrats to you Lalo... and your dad.... and your brother
Hehe, I think you three are gonna have fun working on a project like **** (considering yours seems rather likely to be able to DRIVE )
Oh and I really hope this goes better than the Cobra II project (mine or your dads? the world will never know...)
Anything small and RWD can be fun lol. Keep us posted! (looks like you'll be needing your own thread lol)

I bought a "fourth generation" '86 Celica GTS (the year they switched to front drive) back in '88. They're terrific cars and mine ran for years with no trouble - I put 250K on it. It had a 16V, fuel injected, DOHC engine (3S-GE) with 135 HP back when the equivalent Preludes were running carbureted 100 HP engines. It also had lots of amenities, even a few I wish my forthcoming Mustang had. Ironically, it was also a two-tone silver/blue color. 86.5 was the year that the Supra became its own model. It had previously been a trim upgrade of the Celica (Celica Supra).
The Celicas were very advanced through the '80s, and if anyone remembers, the original 1970 Celica was actually inspired by the Mustang. It was Japan's answer to the Stang...only smaller.
For a while there I was pining for an All-Trac Turbo, if anyone remembers those.

Congrads, great car. I had a 1980 Toyota Celica, which I had for 250,000 miles, and owned it for 13 years. I loved that car, finally gave it away to my brother.
