...and all that happened at only 40 mph!

In the frontal offset crash test, the lower half of the car buckled, pushing the pedals 18 inches into the driver's space.
The door also jammed shut, with the obvious consequence that it would take far longer for emergency services to reach the passengers in the case of a real-world collision. The ADAC testers could only open the door with the help of a whacking great crowbar.
The side impact test was no better, with the driver's upper body absorbing the impact and sustaining injuries that would likely prove fatal.

It looked like the test dummy still hit his (it's?) head on the dash even with the airbag since the dash was pushed so far back into the drivers compartment.

Give the Chinese five years. With a workforce of nearly 800 million adults willing to work for dollars a day, a rapidly improving university system, and state mandated quotas of engineering and science majors...everyone but the Indians will find themselves up ****creek.

In five years the U.S. will be at war with China over Taiwan, or any number of other geopolitical issues as it attempts to realize its REAL goal, that of becoming a legitimate superpower.

Just remember this sobering thought: no country in history has ever reached empire or superpower status without first going to war.

Even without a war, their banking system won't survive another 5 years. It really should have collapsed already, but their gov's propping it up to make it through the 2008 Olympics. When it goes, it'll look like 1929 did here.

Not a chance. Together with Japan, China owns more than 70% of the U.S. debt.

And remember, the thing that got us out of the Great Depression was WWII...! The U.S. needs to start adopting a policy of containment towards China right away, rather than continuing to negotiate unfair trade policies so that we can all buy cheap crap at Walmart.

Back to cars for a second, hopefully those Dingaling Widowmakers never make it to our shores.

lol that had smashes into the dash with authority. And considering how much static tests promote a false sense of security with smaller cars, imagine a 40mph offset with an F450.

What I don't understand about the prospect of Chinese cars is that they never honored any patents ever, they just copy others products and ideas. How the hell could something like that ever make it out of litigation from the owners of these patents

The problem is that the legitimate patent owners settle for infringement fees, which the Chinese start paying after a lengthy court procedure, during which they will have sold enough of these coffins on wheels to be able to raise the money.
Furthermore, the Chinese car manufacturers are mostly state-owned and the financial backing is unbelievably strong, in order to break into the European and American markets.
All we can do is test them and then not approve them for sale, but we still have to fight with their political lobbying and their strong sales in other markets like India and Brazil.

I hit play and was all, "well that's not so baOH MY GOD! "
With both cars, all seems to go well until the frame gives out. Then the drivers compartment turns into a trash compactor. not cool.
