Okay I looked over the website, very cool place, you can tour the f-150 assembly plant. If your going for mustangs probably not gonna be too impressed. They do have the first serial number 1965 stang convertible.

Corvette fan? Uh, depends. Love the '57--classic! The '58, eh, not so much going to the dual headlights just didn't work for me. The '63 split window is also a classic. A very bold design statement. I liked the '74 (the looks, not the performance). The recent Corvettes just don't quite do it for me.

I think Chevy has created a great sports car that offers tremendous bang for the bucks. In recent years the Corvette has offered super-car performance at a relatively modest price tag. Unfortunately, I don't believe the look/style of the Corvette has kept pace with its engineering technology and performance. It is capable of performing with a Lamborghini or Ferrari, but on style points, it is not in the same league. (Of course, perhaps that is why it is affordable.) JMO.

Performance yes. Too bad the interior is still the same quality as $13,000 Chevy Spark.

 

Isn't the whole body made out of fiberglass?

 

Composite and carbon fiber is what GM says, although I think it might still be the sheet molded compound stuff just given a fancier name, SMC is fiber glass... sorta with the C5 and C6 cars really using more of a plastic compound rather than the fiber glass most people are accustomed to.

If it is SMC on the C7 its probably a very different material compared to the SMC used on previous cars ( each generation Corvette has used a different mix of materials for the body panels and as far as I can tell have been using SMC since the C3)

 

So if their using SMC, then basically your paying some 55-100 and something thousand for a plastic car that has some horsepower under the hood. Sure suck to get hit by something while being the driver

 

Well its a bit more than that, the Corvette is more or less a space frame car and not some sort of SMC unibody (if you could make such a thing) or body on frame and I'd wait for the various crash ratings to be published before passing judgment on the car's crash worthiness.

The car's frame is actually a pretty complicated affair using a mix of hydro-formed, cast, and stamped aluminum components to get the right properties into the right section, some good videos and reading out there if your interested in seeing what went into the new car. Its definitely a big step forward.

I'd say you get your moneys worth with the C7 Corvette, definitely if the car is starting at 55k
