Haha... not too surprising.

I know if I had a teen, there's no way I'd want him/her to have a Mustang (no offense to any of the teen owners here).

I know when I was in my teens, I always thought - hey, they wouldn't make the speedometers go that high if they didn't want you to drive that high.

Luckily for me, the 87 Bonneville I had when I was 16 had a speedo that only went up to 85.

my first car at 16 was my mom's 1971 BOSS 351.... I still have it, but oh do I wish I had not followed my buddy's in there Jeep's during high school. I cringe every time I detail it and see the huge dents in the floor baords, and gas tank.. I thought I knew everything at 16 yearl old, I guess I did not

Going to move this to General vehicle discussion. The article is on the 2001 Mustang, not the 2005, however I am sure most teens want it as well and most parents would still say no.

I can see where the parents are coming from. Im not a parent myself, but an older brother. My brother will be getting his drivers liscence in just a few months. He has his heart set on an 06 V6. Givin our situation right now it doesnt look like heck be getting it anytime soon. My mother will end up giving him her 2001 Land Rover Discovery. My mom and i feel more comfortable puttinh him behind the wheel of a tank rather than a brand new sports car. I was lucky enough to get a new mustang when i was his age, but my parents felt i was more responsible driving. If i was my brother i dont think id be complaining if i was givin a luxury 4x4 for my first car.

Im 16 right now, im stuck with a 04 malibu until i graduate (pretty nice car for a new driver) and then i get my GT My parents said they would rather have me driving a domestic car then some import.

And they said they would pick the import car over a 2001 mustang.. I bet if they read more facts about the 05 they would know who the winner would be

People just think Civics are good little cars. And, perhaps they are right. One things for sure, they are CHEAP. Cheap to buy, cheap to own, and cheap to operate. BUT, they are also tiny tin cans. I'd want a little more around my young driver. Most young drivers will do something silly more than once. Why not give them a fighting chance? I kind of feel a mid size domestic would give more protection and support our economy a little better.

Mustang, while cool, also means big $$ for insurance on a 16 of 17 year old.

Why are parents so against a kid having a Mustang, according to the story? I can see a not wanting a kid to have a Mustang GT with a V8 , but a V6 Mustang is not too much for a teen to handle, especially an SN95 V6 with an automatic....

Heck , I would think with the popularity of Civics with the "Fast and Furious" crowd, parents would want keep kids away from Honda Civics....
