We'll see, but I won't be the one to bet against FoMoCo just yet. It has been my opinion that Mopar has not existed since 1998..Its a German car company as far as I am concerned! :notnice:

Dont see it happening. If they were to take out of of the major us automakers, gm would be the first to go down given thier current financial status. Once they bought out gm, and got rid of all the fat gm has from having to deal with unions over the past 50 years, then they could probably turn gm around, or fuse the two together to make a very nice, and succesfull line of cars. Then and only then Ford MIGHT be in trouble.

Ford has the most powerfull marketing tools out there, loyal customers and heritage. Specially when it comes to mustangs. The charger went away, and is coming back. The gto went away, and came back. The camaro went away, and is coming back. But the FORD mustang is the one car that has stood the test of time, and has never been taken out of production since it was origninally released. That fact in itself speaks volumes about Ford owners, and mustang owners in paticular.

Also, up until the past few years, chrysler was on a real down hill run with the general quality and reliability of thier vehicles, this isnt something the public is likely to forget quickly. Sure they are now prodicing some nice, more sporty cars with decent horsewpoer and looks, but you need have to sell more than just sporty cars to make a brand last.

I'm with you on that. And I was a Mopar fan for over 20 years. Chrysler is not an American company anymore.

Yeah and America would be so much better if the Axis had won WWII

Since Daimler took over, they've had one car platform that has been successful, but the 300/Magnum/Charger is not even in the Top 10 in sales. Critics love it, but it's not exactly outselling the Camry. Even the old Taurus outsold the 300/Magnum/Charger last year.

The Dodge Ram, another success, but that existed pre-"merger" and they just didn't screw it up in the redesign. The Viper existed before the "merger" as well.

That article mentioned at the beginning of this thread is just a big bunch of speculation.

"If Chrysler has some winners with its new products, it could pass Ford in North American production as soon as 12 months from now," Sean McAlinden, chief economist for the Center for Automotive Research in Ann Arbor, said Sunday.
We'll see where DC is in a few years.

DCX is definitely on a roll while Ford, if not on the ropes, is staggering a bit. DCX has a suite of highly desireable products across the board, foremost their LX platform based cars such as the Magnum and 300C, which have been as much of a smash as, say, the Ford 500 has been a bit of a yawn.

I wouldn't count Ford out, but they have to pick up there game a LOT more than they have across the board because DCX shows no signs of faltering.

My thoughts exactly. I have a friend who is a die-hard Mopar fan but he readily admits, "Ford has never let down their pony car fans". Now they may have stumbled a few times but they have tried to keep the faith and produce an affordable sporty car.

I also believe that Ford is and has been in trouble for some time. If they don't continue to make strides to improve they are doomed. For too long they placed all their eggs in the F150 and SUV basket and now the eggs are scrambled. It's going to take a supreme effort to return Ford to a respected, profitable automobile manufacturer but it can be done. Let's just hope Bill Ford stays the course and is successful.

We bought our 97 F150 in Aug. of 96. She NEVER gave us any trouble. She has 190,000 miles plus and is still going strong. No rattles,sgueaks-nothing to complain about. We thought our 05 Stang would be of the same quality- we were wrong. I LOVE my car,but she's had a list of odd problems. Maybe those in charge of the F150 should share some quality heads up with the rest of Ford.( I don't want to misrepresent our truck-yes in 9 years she's had normal wear problems, but not when new. not like this car.) If Ford is to stay ahead or even just keep up, they need to make quality job one. We own 3 Fords and consider ourselves Ford people, but now my hubby is thinking his next vehicle will be a Honda. I think I'll die if things don't turn around! Ford and it's employees need to take a long hard look at this global economy we now live in. (sorry, I think I just got carried away!) I don't mind paying a little extra for an American car, but I want something for my money.

Chrysler got a lot of attention since they were bought by Daimler. Their cars looks better and they have better quality so sales will go up even more in the future.

I strongly disagree with that "look better" and "better quality" business, thats opinion right there, sell it somewhere else. :nono:

You forgot about the Corvette. Been around for 11 years longer then the Mustang and has never changed from what it was designed for.

300, along with Mustang, is probably the most popular car in North America now. Their vehicles look awesome, I can't find one Chrysler vehicle I don't like.

Technically the Ford Mustang is the longest consecutively running sports car. Chevrolet actually never assembled any Corvette's for the 1983 model year. They actually just carried over the 1982 model.

Longest running total years wise the Corvette is the longest in the sports car market.

I learned this a few years ago in Car and Driver's Corvette 50th anniversary issue. I was quite surprised!

I know its not sport or car, but F-Series is on the market since 1948.

You are correct sir

I wonder what the longest running vehicle series is, consecutively of course. Anyone know?

I think its Chevy/GMC Suburban. They were first introduced in 1936.
