Can Detroit Survive a Bailout?
An interesting question and an article that gives it some context...

If the feds take a share in the automakers, my answer is no. Somebody should tell Speaker Pelosi and Majority Leader Reid to look up British Leyland on Google...

I'm skeptical of government involvement in business. Back in the 90's, the Government seized the Mustang Ranch brothel in Nevada for tax evasion (an IRS lien) and, as required by law, tried to run it. They failed and it closed. It worries me that we are trusting the economy of our country to a pack of nit-wits who couldn't make money running a ***** house and selling booze.

We think difficult times are here now, give it a little more time. I don't think we've seen anything yet. Things are poised to get REALLY bad in '09. Let's hope Obama has some real plans.

You make it sound as if the Feds actually tried to run that place correctly. They saw it as a chance to get rid of something they hate, and took it.
