I'll be shocked if they produce a new Camaro before MY2010. If they produce any of the concepts floating around, they will price themselves out of the market. If they follow the design direction of the GTO, they'll be laughed out of the market. If they follow their previous design doctrine with the Camaro and put a great engine together with an uninspired, overweight body and crappy interior, they'll have the same mediocre results they had with the F-bodies.
They've got to find a way to capture the same spirit as the '05 Mustang, while staying in the same price arena and matching quality. I don't think they can.

GM's Solstice looks pretty expensive because of the shape the car has but its going to start around 20thou... i dont see why GM can't make a Camaro like those floating around for maybe around the high 20thou's and not sell pretty good.

i really love the way that camaro looks, but i'm pretty sure it wont happen
For one thing, that particular photoshop is based off of the same car you posted above it, the Solstice. That platform is far too small for the Camaro, so you're looking at a larger platform right off the bat. The fabrication I think would be much more expensive, because (and this is assuming a production vehicle identical in appearance to that concept) the curves and contours are much more pronounced than on the solstice. I think, if you produced that car on a bigger platform, with that body and an LS-1, you might come in under $30k, but it's debatable. LS2, no way, no how.
They're kinda stuck right now, which is why I believe it'll be at least another 5 years before another Camaro hits the streets. They need to regroup and rethink their design decisions.

[/b][/quote]If the redesigned GTO (as Autoweek says http://autoweek.com/news.cms?newsId=101340) has style like that of the 2006 Pontiac, then I think they will do well. It needs to be smaller and weigh less.

I don't think retro is the way to go for the Camaro or GTO, imo. If they went retro, what would the car after that one look like??
They need to use a V-6 (or perhaps a 4.2l 275 hp I-6) as base engine with less stuff than the current GTO and just one V-8 model so that they don't take away Corvette sales.
That's just another car. Like most guys that are old, the new Mustang reminds me the Mustangs only "the rich kids" had. I rode my bike to the local Ford dealer to look at the '67 fastback. I'm finally old enough with the $$$$ able to buy an '05 - present day technology and good old-fashioned styling. GM has to capture the emotional feeling with the new Camaro or lose even more market share. BTW, according to a friend of mine, the new GT has a faster 0-60 times than the '67 'Cuda with a HEMI. Frankly, GM cars have been over-priced, too heavy, and have no emotional zing...but I like the CTS and STS.
If Chevy does come out with a new Camaro I worry about the price. GM claims they wont put a V-6 in the Solstice because it would cause enough changes in the product design to make the car cost 25k. That is a lot of dough for a V-6 car that small convertible or not.
And, GM says if they build a Camaro it will likely be on the same platform as Solstice. If a V-6 Soltice would be a 25k car for GM to think it profitable enough to build how much would an LS V-8 powered Camaro cost?

the camaro is coming back in 07 no longer just a rumor and yes it will be based on the zeta chassis it was officially released a week or two ago... i think
Actually, over on GM Inside News there is a rumour floating that Camaro may be going on an extended Kappa platform as it is lighter and cheaper. Seems the Holdne boys are debuting a sedan concept based on the chassis, and some GM bras Stateside like the idea of dropping a new camaro on that. And, if Chevy is telling the truth and a Kappa-based Sosltice V-6 would need 25k to be viable then ZETA's cost may be turning into a sore spot s it is certainly more expensive than Kappa.
Looks like the GM boys may be going through the same thing Ford did with the DEW98. Remember, those problems led to the creation of the current Mustang chassis as DEW98 just had too many cost issues for Mustang duty. However, as the Camaro has not been a success in some time and is currently gone; one would think problems like this could easily put the GM pony-car back on the shelf unless somebody comes up with an answer fast.

I personally don't care or worry about it anymore. I haven't liked the camaro since the "early" 70's. With the way GM's designs are turning out (SSR, HHR, Malibu, Malibu Maxx, GTO, etc) I fear for any new Camaro. That orange concept pictures not bad but the front lower bumper/grill area looks bad with those lines. Just my opinion.
