Agreed.
I was disappointed in the 'tumbler' version because I felt it was too much of a departure from the typical batmobile sleekness
I've always had dreams of converting a Viper into a batmobile. I think that car has the best proportions to do the job. Of course an SLS work work as well

"You're Batman!"
KRAMER: Well, after he heckled Toby, she got so upset, she ran out of the building and a street sweeper ran over her foot and severed her pinky toe.
GEORGE: That's unbelievable!
KRAMER: Yeah! Then after the ambulance left, I found the toe! So I put it in a Cracker Jack box, filled it with ice, and took off for the hospital.
GEORGE: You ran?
KRAMER: No, I jumped on the bus. I told the driver, "I got a toe here, buddy - step on it."
GEORGE: Holy cow!
KRAMER: Yeah, yeah, then all of a sudden, this guy pulls out a gun. Well, I knew any delay is gonna cost her her pinky toe, so I got out of the seat and I started walking towards him. He says, "Where do you think you're going, Cracker Jack?" I said, "Well, I got a little prize for ya, buddy - " <Kramer throws two quick punches and a massive uppercut> - knocked him out cold!
GEORGE: How could you do that?!
KRAMER: Then everybody is screamin,' because the driver, he's passed out from all the commotion...the bus is out of control! So, I grab him by the collar, I take him out of the seat, I get behind the wheel and now I'm drivin' the bus.
GEORGE: You're Batman.
KRAMER: Yeah. Yeah, I am Batman. Then the mugger, he comes to, and he starts chokin' me! So I'm fightin' him off with one hand and I kept drivin' the bus with the other, y'know? Then I managed to open up the door, and I kicked him out the door with my foot, you know - at the next stop.
JERRY: You kept makin' all the stops?
KRAMER: Well, people kept ringin' the bell!
GEORGE: That's unbelievable!

I like the 89 version as opposed to the following Batmobiles. After Burton stopped making the new movies they became even cheesier than the old 60's comics. I do like th eoriginal version of the Batmobile too cause it was just crazy to think people were building things like that then.
The tumbler seems more Punisher than Batman, but the new motorcycle is pretty awesome.
As for grittier - I'm with Gary on this one. I like it being really dark. Burton started the trend though because in 89 that movie was so far off the path from what everyone was used to with the TV show.

But we've evolved, or become more desensitized.

Not so sure about being desensitized. More like enjoying the story the way it should be told. I think Batman was one of the darkest and scariest comics released from the very begining.
And on a side note.. where the heck do you work jsnyng that you got a Batmobile in your office lobby?!

I'm at the Chick-fil-A corporate office. The lobby is essentially Truett Cathy's personal automobile museum. There's a Shelby Cobra, '56 Corvette, Model A, Model T, Packard, Rolls Royce, and many others there. The last Taurus to ever roll off the assembly line in the now closed Doraville, GA plant is there as well. It's very cool walking through there every morning.

I like the darker batman too, my fav is the batman animated series from the '90s. Perfect voice actors for every character and it was never even daylight on the show lol. But I still don't like the tumbler because it doesn't have a batman feel. Like most of those other versions shown you could just look at them and know "that's a batmobile". The tumbler just looks like a cool military vehicle but not a batmobile
