Maybe not, but its gonna be cheap to produce (since GM already has platform, engine, batteries ...) and Cadillac can brag that they have the most economical luxury car in the world ...
And I wouldn't say that Volt isn't selling ... 16,348 were sold in the first 9 months this year, which is not a bad number considering the fact that Volt is a $40,000 car.

Put a fork in it, GM.

GM already has a fully developed car, only thing that they need to do is put Cadillac's body on it and sell it for a premium price.
Cadillac ELR can't hurt GM, it can only help them, since GM is gonna ask for a premium price. Premium prices = larger profits.
The Volt is a pathetic flop in terms of sales; the fact that it's doing better this year than the couple hundred (haha) that were sold in calendar year 2011 doesn't mean it's "setting the world afire," like I stated before. GM's initial plans were to produce 60,000 Volts in 2012. They're on pace to sell just over 20,000 this year. You do the math. And, if I recall correctly, GM's had to idle Volt production at least twice this year for several weeks at a time. That isn't indicative of a vehicle whose sales are "not a bad number," regardless of the circumstances.
Maybe Volt didn't meet GM's expectations, but its not a failure for sure ...
After all, 60,000 is a pretty high goal ... Ford's plan was to sell only 5,000 electric Focuses in 2012.
Well, let me put it this way - last month Volt alone outsold all Ford's hybrids (C-Max, Fusion and MKZ) combined.

So it seemed like a good thing in August when sales of the $40,000 car set a monthly record of 2,800. But a closer look shows that things aren't what they seem for the cutting-edge car.
Sales rose mostly because of discounts of almost $10,000, or 25 percent of the Volt's sticker price, according to figures from TrueCar.com, an auto pricing website. Other pricing services gave similar numbers, and dealers confirmed that steeply discounted Volts are selling better than a few months ago."

Nearly two years after the introduction of the path-breaking plug-in hybrid, GM is still losing as much as $49,000 on each Volt it builds, according to estimates provided to Reuters by industry analysts and manufacturing experts. GM on Monday issued a statement disputing the estimates.
Cheap Volt lease offers meant to drive more customers to Chevy showrooms this summer may have pushed that loss even higher. There are some Americans paying just $5,050 to drive around for two years in a vehicle that cost as much as $89,000 to produce.
And while the loss per vehicle will shrink as more are built and sold, GM is still years away from making money on the Volt, which will soon face new competitors from Ford, Honda and others.

Some cars are built simply to increase company's reputation.
Just ask Volkswagen why they're continuing to build Bugatti Veyron even with huge losses on each sold.

The ATS had a child after a drunken night with a volt and an accord coupe. It doesn't work for me.
And even if the styling did work, I don't see an electric/hybrid cadillac coupe being a huge seller.
