If you care that much how much your car will be worth in 25 years, then you should buy a Toyota because Toyota holds value longer than Ford and Pontiac together. Get a 1998 Supra (last year of Supra) and it will keep value longer than GTO.
Other thing is are you really gonna keep your GTO for the next 25 years? I don't think so.
GTO is a nice car and good luck with it, but you're giving us wrong reasons why you bought it.

GTO weighs a ton and it is slower than it should be because it is a overweight POS, i hate em. Fugly Grand Am with a LS1. Not even a real 350 anyways. AND The GTO interior is Fugly as heck, it is nasty looking and 90 percent of em have REd guages

The gas guzzler tax is only on the automatic.

Then the dealer was using that to mark up the cars, I just priced a GTO on the Pontiac website and on Edmunds.com, both only add the gas guzzler tax on the automatic.

wow, the one in town was the 6 speed with the gas guzzler tax on the window sticker and it was only 1000 dollars, not 1300, some of you people are getting ripped off..

Actually a 2005 WS6 would be a rip off

I wouldn't call a GTO a POS. It is a good muscle car. I do think it's bland and overpriced, however. The 6-speeds around here have the "gas tax", too.
Given the lack of sales of the current GTO, and since it's just a rebadged and reskinned Manaro (which was getting "long-in-the-tooth" before they brought it stateside), I don't think it will have much in the way of collectability. Since the '04s were substantially discounted/rebated, I would think resale would be terrible.
Give Pontiac a muligan on this iteration of the GTO and hope the next one they bring out hits closer to the mark.
People talk about the mid-60s GTO being a plain-Jane LeMans with the big engine as the target. I say Pontiac should have looked at the GTOs hey-dey as the target and should have taken a shot at the late 60s GTO for styling cues. That's when they had as much "panache" as anything else on the road.
