Sweet. Looks like a smaller 6 series, except it doesn't have that high deck lid that comes down and cuts into the bumper.

hmmm, those overhangs look pretty long for today's standards.

Especially as this is supposed to replace the 3 series is sales. I thought that BMW were going for the "wheel at each corner" approach...

Apparently, this is the convertible with the optional removable hard top installed. If you look at it closely, the roof is a different texture to the rest of the car.

Yeah, that's what it looked like to me. This is going to replace the 3 series? I certainly hope not, and I don't think so. I love the current 3's and the styling of this one doesn't even come close. Chris Bangle bungling again?

I like it like that. I also like the overhangs. Looks good when you think about BMW always had their wheels on the corners. They are just going for a little change that's all.

It'll have to be a 3-series replacement. BMW's going down the same slippery slope as Mercedes, that being slicing up their pie into too many pieces. BMW has a pretty good system worked out for their car classes/makes as is.

BMW isn't dicing up it's line, its adding two new models and renaming a few.

2 series- new model, small coupe
3 series-same
4 series- new name for 3 ci's or Is's
5 series- same
6 series- new model, although essentially two door five series
7 series- same

motor trend keeps telling us that BMW is thinking about still calling the coupe and convertibles 3-series, just cause of the name recognition factor. I think that's stupid and i hope their wrong, but i think i've read little blurbs in the past two issues that have said this. I was really liking their new system, odd numbers for sedans and even numbers for coupes and verts, cause its one of those logical, organized things. To scrap that for just a "recognizable" name (come on, its a number!) is stupid. People can figure it out!

Here ya go, they mention it in their 2007 future vehicle forcast:

I'm pretty sure the 4 series is a sure go, the only question was about the M3, whether it would be a coupe or a sedan.
