kind of a broad poll. I just went with the one that puts up the best numbers stock. Viper.

 

Hands down, it's the Corvette. It costs less, handles better than the Viper, and in my humble opinion, looks better.

I don't consider the Mustang to be a sports car.

If cost were no object, I would have chosen the new Ford GT, but it's not something you're going to see very often, let alone drive if you owned one.

 

Corvette because 1. the Mustang is a Muscle car not a Sports car, and 2. the Viper costs way too much.

 

the mustang is just the best all around car...it can be a muscle car, a sports car...even a family car(if ya got a really small family )

Cobra. Raather have a beat-to-heck 1966 Cobra than a brand-new C6.

Guys, the Mustang is a sports car regardless if it's considered a "muscle" car.

In fact, the Mustang has been the best-selling SPORTS car for many years running. Look it up, it's classified by the industry as a sport coupe.

The Mustang is, therefore, to me, the best American sports car out there. It's half the price of a Corvette, and continues to be a head turner. I see Mustangs all the time. My girlfriend owns one, my dad has 3 friends that own them. But every time I see this sonic blue SN95 GT in my girlfriend's apartment complex, I stare because it just looks so nice. A Corvette is very nice, and is possibly the best bang for the buck out there. But, it doesn't evoke the same emotion from me as a Mustang. The Mustang is a sports car for everybody. That's what makes it appealing to me.

By the way, the topic starter can't even drive yet. I doubt he's a troll. Just not too smart.

 

And a Ferrrrrrrrrrrari isn't a sports car??? what is it then?

The viper races in the GT series and LeMans, and a car that races is therfore a sports car........

Given their very limited production and high costs, almost nowhere.

I still maintain that the Mustang is not a true sports car. With it's 2+2 capability, it's more of a GT in the classical definition, but it'll always be a pony car to me. When the Mustang GT is available with IRS, it'll move up a major notch in my esteem.

Mind you, I still drive and enjoy mine, but I've had sports cars, and the Mustang ain't one.

True, but the Ford GT was not an choice. I've loved that car since the GT-40's won at Le Mans back in the 60's. Yes, I am that old!

 

I also consider the Mustang to be a 2+2 GT or "Pony" car. I think most consider the Vette to be "America's Sports Car" while the Mustang is probably Detroit and America's favorite car overall.

Which Viper and Corvette are we talking about here anyway? GTS or SRT10? C5 or C6? The 2 brand names are very different IMO. The Viper, both models, are much more powerful but are harder to drive/control and are said to be uncomfortable and hot. The Vette is the best performance/comfort sports car in the world, at it's price, but still lacks the power,breaking, exclusiveness, and agressive design of the Viper(s).

IMO, the Viper will eventually be cancelled the way DC is neglecting it. The Ford GT is only going to be around for 3 years as well. The Vette will probably be around another 50 years.

Even if you were to consider the Mustang a sports car, the only factory Mustang close to the Viper/Vette is the Cobra. Granted the Cobra is the best performance car in the 35K range it still has to lose some weight and dump the V6 interior(for 07). I can't even fathom calling the current GT's the best American sports car because mine rides like crap compared to some of the other lower priced American cars I have driven.

I can understand though why many choose to consider the Mustang a sports car, as I sort of agree every here and there since that is what my insurance company wants to call it to up my rates .....

Now if the 05 Ride is a 100% improvement over the current platform I'll give the Mustang the nod next time!
