Avanti Mustang!
Here is something that surprisingly I never came across before. Avanti Motors will never give up. They are now basing their latest Avanti on our Mustangs...

Michael Eugene Kelly (born October 6, 1949) is the owner of Yucatan Resorts, Resort Holdings International, Puerto Cancun and Avanti Motor Corporation. With 23 others, he is accused by the FBI and the United States Attorney's Office of operating a $428 million Ponzi scheme that defrauded over a thousand elderly and senior citizens of their retirement money.[1]
Kelly was arrested in his hospital room at the Mayo Clinic on December 22, 2006 just before he was about to be discharged to return to one of his homes in Cancún, Mexico. In pretrial services, Kelly claimed that he earned $55,000 a year and had only $48,000 in assets. In spite of this claim, Kelly offered a private jet, four yachts and race track as collateral at his detention hearing.[2] He was denied bail and remanded to the Metropolitan Correctional Center, Chicago. Kelly attempted to avoid indictment by arranging a plea agreement that included paying restitution to the victims. On 14 May 2008, Kelly pled not guilty to 14 counts of fraud and was remanded in custody.[3][dead link]

It might be old news but it's the first time I stumbled accross it and I have not seen a mention of it before. Stuff like this usually don't slip by me that easily. I had no idea they were still even making those, much less on Mustang platforms.

The Avanti is my favorite car of all time, next to Aston Martin. I actually owned an 83 Avanti II for many years. However, I'm not quite as fond of the Avanti's after they abandoned the original Studebaker bodies. They actually started using the mustang in late 2004 when GM canceled the F-Body Camaro and Firebirds, which left them without a donor chassis to build from, as building their own chassis from the ground up was too cost prohibitive to meet government crash/safety standards. I don't think many "05 Avanti's" were built using the SN-95 Chassis. I think what happened was they got a good deal on a bunch of left over 04 Mustangs when the 05's came out.

Here's my design for a 2010 Avanti based on the New Camaro.
And here's a few more, hand drawn designs, if I could build it on it's own chassis.
This is my favorite!
This was my design for a GT Convertible version with extra side extractors above the lower extractors and a rear spoiler.

Here's a few pic's of some of my Favorite Avanti's through the years.
This is a 63 I found on E-Bay. The white interior isn't original but I thought it was a beautiful car.
This is an Immaculate 88 convertible I found for sale a while ago. by this point they were using Monte Carlo chassis to build them, as the Monte Carlo's were still body on frame, but they were still using the original Studebaker bodies, modified to fit the chassis and using different bumpers for crash standards. They had also abandoned the original Avanti Dash and Interior for a custom built interior, why I don't know?

The equivalent to taking a "Mustang" to the glue factory. Unforgivable. The older Studebaker ones were pretty cool. The black one is awesome, but that white one, and the yellow off the "F" body...AHHH...horror story!
