I'd watch it, if I had the history channel. But I can't see them getting away with nearly as much as the brits do, so it won't be as good. Everyone is too uptight over here in the states about safety and liability.

+1. When is the next season of Top Gear (BBC) slated to begin anyway?

January 23rd for their regular season. Supposedly filming a special next month which may air before or during the season.

Sooooo, I watched a 5 minute preview of the upcoming series on iTunes this morning and while I am still excited. I did notice an awful lot of production and scripted feel to the show. The car goodness is awesome. The hosts are just dry. Tanner proves that he's a great driver even though he didn't need to. That's about the best thing though. I certainly get the feeling that someone is trying waaaaaaaaaay too hard to "get it right". Just like all American shows they have to be spotless and scripted. I almost thought that Jersey Shore felt more real than this Top Gear.
There is a great segment about the Lancer Evo and Tanner doing some sweet snow drifting but the challenge is to beat some skiers down the hill, via an old James Bond in a Lotus chase scene is what it looked like. I don't know how many takes they had to do to get it right. What I did love is that Top Gear UK just looked like they let the guys loose and said we'll tape whatever happens and edit it later. I am affraid this Top Gear US is more of hey, lets try that shot again because the light wasn't right and you just weren't showing me the right emotions.

I don't care that the hosts suck, I care that it doesn't look like The Marriage Ref when it's all said and done. Since I'm a car guy though, I do love the car scenes and that is more than enough to make up for the cheese factor.

i watched top gear uk a few times but i just dont like all the degrading of american cars that they come up with. lets put a mustang horse against a Mustang and have them go around a dirt circle track, great comparison....

i watched it for hours one day just for the driving but i just dont get excited about the show cuz whenever i think about it, I think of them just trying to trash american cars.

just like them putting the jaguar and holden against a 300C. that comparison was retarded. not even a SRT8 300C, that would have made a little more sense.

Maybe top gear USA will be more fun to watch because there wont be a bunch of brits talking s*** about our cars because their still pissed we gained our independence.

This is my problem with Top Gear UK. I get it, everyone else thinks that our cars come out of the trailer park for mullet heads. Ok, no need to say it or imply it every time an American car is mentioned in the show. I usually laugh non stop during some episodes until the degrading U.S. comment is thrown in. We already know that most of our cars are crap. Some are pure genius. So we don't build Ferraris, Astons or Jags here, but last time I checked, I'd much rather have a proven Corvette that I know I can rack up over 200,000 miles in over a Ferrari that will burn at 4k. Call us what you want but sometimes simple is the answer. Even in one of the episodes, Jezza was in an IROC-Z and said, "I'd much rather be in this than an Enzo, any day." I guess it's good humor for the British. Fine. It is their show and I can't take away the humor. But I think they need to do a feature on TG USA with Aston's and Jags and talk about how brilliant they can be. Even when they do leave you stranded. Who cares if your on the side of the road, everyone wants to be James Bond. Go the high road.

Top Gear does that with pretty much every automaker, not just with those from the USA.
How many times did they make fun of Range Rover's reliability? Yeah, it's a great for off-road and to drive in general, but quality is crap.
Or that episode with Lancias? True, they're great to drive ... when they actually run, which is not often.

Those are a direct reflection of the car, not where it came from. I don't mind that they tell it how it is about the car but relating a person that drives a Mustang is sexually interested in their sister. These are the things I could see going without, but maybe I am missing some of the other off beat comments made about the other cars......hmm, not that I can tell. I'll take a look into it when I get a chance.

Maybe I just didn't state my case the way I should have.

The UK Top Gear Mates can't hate the USA too much . . . . their theme song is based on a song from an american band.

I love the show and all their "humor." And they do make fun of their own . . . every see the 'Lorry Driver' episode?

Stig? Do we get a Mystery driver??? some fat guys?
I honestly cant wait to see what messes these guys can do, i love cars, but love the crap they start and pull just as much. A trailer that drives, flies and turns over when landing.. come on we need funny stuff.

I was just gonna bring that up. It was at that moment along with all the American bashing that I gave up on the show for good. Not that I ever really watched it that much.
