2013 GT500 or....

a nice used performance car?

The 2013 GT500 is calling my name big time.
Problem is, it's 6-7 months away from being released, and I absolutely REFUSE to pay above sticker for a car. I'm not into voluntarily giving more money to a car dealership than what the maker of a car says the RETAIL price of what they've made is. Honestly, I've never paid MSRP for a new car, and I've bought A LOT of new cars.

Will there be dealers that will sell the 2013 GT500 without mark ups? Sure, they are the smart ones that actually WANT to sell the cars and not have them sit in their dealerships for months.
But doubtful any are going to sell them for anything less than MSRP for the first several months.

I don't want a Boss 302, and I've had the new 5.0 already.

So I'm starting to think of buying a nice used performance car.
Though I could afford more, I'm thinking the
$40-50k range is plenty to spend on a used car.

Now I need ideas.
Though used, I don't want a car with a ton of miles or too old.
So a 10 year old Porsche 911 Turbo with 60k miles on it is not what I'm looking for either.
Sedan or coupe does not matter, no convertibles.
I'm no brand ***** or fanboy, I appreciate and like all types of cars.

Shoot me some ideas, thanks

That it is, I wish I had the money for one. It'd be perfect for driving to the track and thrashing it and then driving home.

Viper?

or just wait and get what you really want. I wouldn't want spend $50K of my hard earned money on something I didn't really want just because I didn't have any patience.

Thanks for the suggestions so far guys.

Can you find a used GT-R in the $50k range?
In hindsight it was stupid now, but I had the chance to get one of the very first GT-R's for MSRP (yes when they were $70k but selling for $20k over sticker).
How? A good friend's brother-in-law owns a Nissan dealership in So Cal.
When I expressed interest in the GT-R my good friend called him up and asked what he could get him (or me) on for.
He said for he'd sell it for MSRP for him or I.
At that point he had an allocation for 6 in the very first shipment to the States, and he had 3 presold already at $20k over.

I passed. I know, stupid me. But I couldn't get over the fact I didn't really fully like the looks of the car, and also the interior (sat in it at the North American debut of it with Carlos Ghosen) felt rather cheap. So even though the performance was stunning, I felt the interior was of Nissan Sentra level, and was a mixed bag on the exterior look.

I like the couple year old ZO6 idea too.

Any thoughts on a couple year old
Cadillac CTS-V

any others?

Resale is for crap on the CTS-V so you should be able to find a good deal. The supercharged version with the track pack (or whatever they called it) would be the one to look for.

What about the new Subaru BR-Z or Scion equivalent.
Gonna look into those.
Not super fast in a straight line, but
2600 lbs
200 hp

should make it quite quick, and be a blast on a road course.

Give the BRZ at least a year. There should be a turbocharged model at some point. Subaru has been talking about putting a 270hp version of the BRZ engine in the next WRX, so you have to assume that the 270hp will make it to the BRZ at some point.

While the car is light and fun, 200hp isn't enough. But when you have 270 with a factory turbo that's much nicer. Knowing Subaru you'll be able to make very easy power with a Cobb flash and be at 5.0 (or better) power to weight.

Anyways, I'd take a look at the Cayman S. Very nice car. I almost bought one in 2009... just couldn't bring myself to spend that much so I bought my 370Z instead.

Well, the 2013 GT500 won't be competing against nobody (directly) this time, what with the Camaro ZL1 coming out and even the Challenger SRT to a degree, so perhaps that will trim back dealers ardor on ADPs this time around.

Yeah.
I'm looking for a fun performance car.
Even though I could afford a new GT500 or even more, I'm not one of those people who feel the need to spend to my limit.
Hence I still have a house, and I'm not upside down in it.

I also don't need to prove my manhood with my car, so I don't need to have the "hottest" car on the market either.

Yes, it's pretty obvious that Subaru will make an STI version of the BRZ
and it would be great with nearly 300 hp, but of course it won't be cuz Subaru can't have it be faster than the WRX STI, unless of course they infuse another 20-30 hp in that one.
But I figure it's at least 2 years away for the BRZ STi and well, I rarely keep a car two years anyway.
I recently moved and now have a professional road course only about 45 minutes away from me (also has a drag strip).
I've spent a far amount of time at drag strips over the past 20 years, and it's time I spend more at road courses.
The BRZ seems like a good cheap car that will handle fantastically and means it's a good car to use on a road course on a regular basis.
A GT500 though would be the car of choice for the drag strip, may get me into a bunch of trouble on a road course with 650 hp, since I'm no Randy Probst.

Maybe I should get the powerful car for the drag strip and find a nice 2-3 year old Miata for road course use.
