2008 Dodge Viper
I cannot believe that they keep upping the displacment. they could ahve easly done 600 NA hp with the 8L... but then again..it wouldn't have 560lbs of torque...so why not have 8.4L
Love the new hood!

Sweet!...I wonder how much the price will go up.....100Gs???
Exactly. If aftermarket tuners can get that out of SBCs and BBFs and BBF with carbs and whatnot, then why can't they do it with an even larger EFI motor, with all this fancy technology???
It's C level work, IMO
But its still a **** good looker

Biggest problem with the Viper is that they've been making it too long. It's just not the special car it was when it first arrived <yawn>.
Wonder what will happen when Dodge is forced to share the Viper technology with Chery?

Thinking the (relatively) low power output vs. displacement may have to deal with driveability, reliability (not stressing the engine too much), and strict emissions - the last one being something those highly-tuned, carb'ed engines don't really have to deal with. Plus it's traditionally the "cheapest" way to get more power.
My carb'ed engin has to deal with strict emissions
lol
. Meh, true enough, but I'm an enthusiast, and remember, we are impossible to please. The thing should have had 600hp and 560lb ft with the smaller V10.

lol
I would still take a Z06 over the Viper. The Viper handled pretty poorly last year, they're very tail happy. With even more power and similar everything else I don't see it improving. I bet the Z06 would still show the Viper the door even with the 600hp.
I'd take a 911S over either. Yeah, it's slower, but it's also the poster child for polish and poise and in no way impracticle as a day to day conveyance. People talk about being able to drive the Z06 every day, but it is harsh by any standard with a rough ride and high noise levels. Chevy and Dodge keep increasing hp in cars which are already fast enough when they would likely be far better served to actually make them better cars.
In truth this is one of the reasons I find myself considering a GT500 more and more seriously. No, it's not as fast as either of these and people continually moan about the weight. But relative to either of these the GT500 is a far more composed, comfortable, and practicle daily driver which is appealing to somebody like me who would actually be driving a car like this every day.
