"2007 Ford Edge : Mazda 6-derived sport wagon. "
That's all there is. I was just checking to see if there's anything new in the MT future vehicle forcasts (http://motortrend.com/future/) and happened across this little tidbit that seems to match up very well with another little tidbit i noticed from another source, Autosinsider (check the thread about the taurus).
I've said before that there are a couple things that don't add up in these forecasts. Some cars that we know have been cancelled or replaced, like the Freestar. We're pretty sure it's getting replaced by something like the Fairlane concept built off of the Mazda6 platform, but MT has the freestar being redesigned in both 2008 and 2009, so obviously its a little messy in places.
But these guys give a name for this sport wagon. It'd be pretty adventurous of them to make up a car and give it a name and model year. I'd say they're basing this on some insider info, we'll see whether it goes through or not.
One thing: the name starts with an E. I hope that doesn't mean its gonna be a sport ute crossover... with that logic, you'd think this thing would be more of a ute than the Freestyle, and that things pretty much half-way. So hopefully, they're just slackin up on the naming scheme. That is, of course, unless you like having a choice of 14 different SUVs. The redesigned Escape (2008 according to MT) will be based on the mazda6 platform, so think this new thing doesn't need to be another SUV on the same platform. I wouldn't mind a ford version of the Mazda6 wagon.

Isn't this supposed to be Ford's version of the Mazda - MX Crossport / Lincoln Aviator?
The Tribute is said to continue when Mazzer brings around the Crossport, so I'm not sure what's happening with the Escape at that point.

MIKE! MY MAN! Good to see an Irish fan on the boards. Were you able to catch the training camp blurb on SportsCenter the other day? The comments Weis was making to the players kinda made him look like a jerk, but he is definately all business, and the players seem to like him. Big difference from Willingham, but I guess time will tell.
On a more thread related note, the Freestyle FX was just the concept for the current Freestyle. Made the rounds at the auto show 2 years ago, with it's retracting roof, and in my opinion, better looks (very similar to the Audi Allroad).

I've seen what I thought was a disguised produciton Meta One prowling around PHX twice the last couple months, it could have been this car. Was wagon-esque, seemed to look close to a Freestyle in proportion. I didn't get my camera phone until recently so I have no pics :bang: Had an interesting combound headlight design, though.

keep in mind that there's gonna be a mercury version of the freestyle out soon, that might be what you saw. The meta one was based off the freestyle and i think it was considered to be a hint at what this mercury freestyle will look like.

I know, I fell off the turnip truck long ago
Was just saying that this could have been the "edge" if it exists, as opposed to the Meta One. there was moderate camo and no brand badging, but it looked different enough from the Freestyle to get my attention.

ya, its a sweet car. i don't see what the problem is. so they're using the platform for a midsize car, a sportwagon, and the next gen compact ute. Really, you're complaining about badge engineering, the fact they take fords, gussy them up a bit to make a mercury, or a lot to make a lincoln.
I don't see any redundancy in sedan/wagon/SUV. Three different markets that can all be filled by this platform. If you want them to develop three different platforms, you should them some cash, they could use it.... :jester"
