2000 ford taurus

my grandma asked me to drive her car and see if her brakes were ok so i did
but this has nothing to do with her brakes
i took the car down the road and it was suprisingly quick so i did a little more "testing" and im pretty sure her car is faster than my mustang
so i get back and i notice the badge on the car "24V DOHC"
my grandmas car is quicker than my stang....

It may feel that way but its really not. I swear. The 24v 3.0 V6's were great engines and plenty powerful for the car but it is not as fast as your stang. Let me look up some stats. Hold on a moment...

It could be the fact that you weren't expecting a mid size sedan to perform as well as it did, the mind is a powerful thing. You may be used to driving the Mustang and not notice its power as much. Yet since you don't drive the Taurus a lot you may notice it more. Thats really all I can think of.
The torque in your Stang certainly kicks in lower on the RPM range than the Taurus, but overall their 0-60 times are relativley close.
I hope this helps a bit

i think it might have something to do with the feel of the gas pedal also, in my stang its real stiff and takes a little effort to put it down but in the taurus and even my olds its really loose and the weight of my foot can almost put it on the floor so mayb im giving those cars more gas than i think

its prolly just geared different

I don't know how to explain this but it seems like FWD cars feel faster then there RWD counter parts. Maybe cause of the pulling motion?

the gearing and the torque curve

I doubt the gearing is more inclined towards accelleration on the taurus. The car is meant to be a crunabout cruiser, not a strip monster. I reckon the feeling came from you knowing your car very well, and getting used to it's performance, then you got into the taurus thinking that it would be slow, and it actually has quite reasonable performance.
