1977 dodge colt
#1
My dads had a 1977 colt since... uhhmm 1977. it broke down 2 years ago and he's had it in the garage for 2 years. Now he gave it to me... I have many fond memorys of the car, but I just don't dig that 121cid engine. So I was hoping of puting in a V-8 in there. but I'm not sure if one will fit. would it be better to just go with a V-6 or just keep the 4-banger? what do you guys think?

I'm not sure about Dodge's, but for many car makers, several engines from the same and post-generation cars can be fitted into other cars. I know VW does this, but I'm not sure about Mopar.
Example. Take a 1979 VW Golf. It has a small I4. It is possible to stuff a new VR6 into the engine compartment. This is because VW has had the same engines mounts from the Golf Mk1 to the current cars (Mk4). If someone was really nuts, an Audi V8 could be squished in there, but that would require making the chassis rear-wheel drive and is a big hassle.
Also, I've seen Caddy Northstar V8s plugged into Pontiac Fieros. And one of my favorites is the placement of a Viper V10 into a 69 Dodge Charger. But, the Charger had room to spare in its engine bay.
It probably can be done, just make sure the engine mounts match or if you are willing to do a little welding, make sure there is enough clearance in the engine bay to take a V6, and fab up some mounts.

ok I'll do some research, I really would prefer not to weld, because i don't know how. But by what I have been told so far I think it will be neccecary. On another note, the 1977 Dodge Colt did not use a mopar engine, it used a Mitsubishi 2.0 engine. That compicates things even more I think.
