They want to give criminal charges for street racing...

depending on the interpretation, a police officer could confiscate your vehilce for acclerating in a sprited manner.

I'm also worried insurance companies will jack up rates on performance cars even more, as they are considered "race" cars in their eyes.

One of the big complaints from local car enthusiasts is the closest drag strip from the Toronto area is an hour away. They shoot down the idea of building something closer because in their eyes, it won't reduce these activities.

I'm just worried that something like this will turn into McCarthyism, where every Mustang/Camaro gets pulled over and harassed

I dunno about the cops but the insurance companies will do that for sure..it's called government sanctioned extortion.

Ive had a worry about this kind of stuff for a long time- I think its just got to be unconstitutional or something...Ive seen 'dare' cars that were pretty slick rides confiscated from druggies- but just 'what if' a not so straight cop might like that ferarri over there...drop a little bag of pills in there and its his...I know most cops are on the level, but also know firsthand for a fact they are not all fine upstanding folks...the guy that ran the dare program here I had a run in with over 20 years ago- long story short, but come home from work, get 12 points in tickets for fleeing on my new 4 wheeler the night before- i asked- 'did you look for tire tracks?"- he looks me square in the eye, "I dont NEED tire tracks."
well I found them , took casts, pics all the way to the ******** house- here he was the salesman at Rick Case honda where I bought it. Got him on tape admitting to rifling thru sales records for someone in the area with a bike like his, found out cops were at his house that night, etc...'anonymous tip' sent them to my house next day. had it rained that night, or had I not been working over on a breakdown,, whatever, I woulda lost my license/job over that arrogant stuck up *****. Now every other Officer Ive ever met I had a lot of respect for, but I do know the ego trip can put some of them in their own reality.

besides that, what if theres a bank loan on the car? how would that work?

Sounds like time to become a part time cop. J/K

It really ticks me off when the government does something annoying like this. What they SHOULD be doing is telling the insurance companies to get thier hands out of our wallets and creating areas where we could race legally.

Who wrote this crap? Yah, these are the really important reasons why street racing is bad. Talk about trying to fill a page.

In addition to the dangers to the drivers involved, police say the practice also creates hazards in other areas:

It adds to noise pollution
It encourages vandalism
It can harm local businesses if cars are tying up the street
It creates extra burdens on already crumbling roads and streets.

I would have been better to use the space to stick in an extra sunshine girl versus that example of a brain fart.

Dan,

Those idiots from Markham that killed that married couple will surely add fuel to the fire.

I agree with the legislation as a whole, as long as law-abiding enthusiasts like the vast majority of us guys here are not singled out and harassed by the police and insurance companies.

Anyone who causes a fatal crash as a result of street racing, should have the book thrown at them.

Its just unbelievale to me that they do it on busy downtown streets, young street and stuff. There were those kids in Rosedale too. Its rediculous. I mean, even if they are going to do it, which isnt bright anyways, do it outside of the downtown core.
