My question was: Does anyone have any news on how many Shelby GTs will be coming to Canada, and at what price?
I have been told that they are only being sold through SVT stores; are sold out until 2008; and will be starting at $45,000.
Anyone have any other or different information?

I did some digging for you, a friend let me know this info;
The Shelby will be an SVT product and will therefore only be sold through SVT dealerships - however, Ford has not announced pricing or how many will be coming to Canada yet. Expect those types of details to be made available in May or June.

I was told you need to leave a $2500.00 deposit with the dealer, to get your name on a Shelby list. Apparently many dealers have long lists.
I asked what happens to the interest on that money while customers are waiting for the car to be built/delivered, etc., but didn't get an answer.

I heard though a neighbour, who is friends with the owner of a dealership around here, that he will be receiving 1, but is going to keep it on the show room floor for a year, and then keep the car for himself.
Since I can't verify this info, I am not going to post the dealer name.

So it'll be at all dealers in the states but only SVT in canada?
A little unfair, and not to mention gives the SVT dealers here the upper hand.
I can see the same ammount of GT500s as the previous cobra #s in canada..only...the demand will be greater here first....
And I can see them sitting on lots after the first year or 2.
If they are only 45,000 CAN... I'd hop on one!
If I can remember the 03/04 Cobra's went for around that much...
I was expecting them to be in the 50k range...

Pete,
I'm willing to bet that the base models will be north of $50K up here, unless they take into account how much closer the Canadian and American dollars are compared to 3 years ago. If that was the case, the GT500 would start around 42-43, considering that is how much a loaded GT convertible is (MSRP), I doubt that it would be so low.

If I really really wanted one, I could see buying one down south, and importing her back up.
Given the car costs 40K USD
+ Tax ~43200
Canadian Value ~50 575 CAD
GST (8%, maybe lower soon) 54621
Duty and Importing costs ~3000
Total ~ $57621
Still cheaper than buying in Ontario at least
$50 000 times 15% tax=57 500 + all the other poo the government charges you.
Now that I think about it, maybe I'll just wait till I have a job to buy one.

Im prety sure it'll be a little ways north of the 50K range. For what you are getting, add in dealer mark up for the first year and its gonna be pricey. I have been to a dealer that has over 40 deposits as of November and they are going to do lottery style draw for the few they get. I also noticed husband and wife teams (ie two deposits from the same last name) They have them posted in the showroom.

I actually asked an SVT dealer here in Vancouer what they would charge for the Shelby, and they were adamant it would be MSRP - but definitely not more.

Markups above MSRP are absolutely illegal in Canada. At least that's what BOTH a dealer AND another close friend who sells cars have insisted to me repeatedly.
