Question for the New york / New Jersey TMSer's. I might be moving for a job based at Newark Airport and was wondering where the best places in that area are to live. Biggest concern is safety of the mustang, second affordability. I dont mind a little commute if I can take public transportation but I've never been on the east coast so I know little about the areas or winter living. Thanks for any information you all can give.

Bergen County is a very safe place in New Jersey, I'm up by Paramus, NJ, very nice places to live, guy near me has 3 mustangs and like 2 choppers, right behind me a guy has a 65 nomad and had a vette. Lots of cops in the area, very nice place to live, very safe.

I'm in Bergen county, the county as a whole is good. There are also good areas in Hudson and Passaic counties as well. Check out www.neighborhood.com which has some usefull demographic info and since you mentioned you'll be taking public transportation check out www.NJTRANSIT.com. You can see bus and train routes/schedules which will help you in choosing a place which has convenient access to public trans.

If you need a real estate agent, my fire deptartment chief's wife is one and she has excellent client satifaction ratings in her field. PM me if you'd like her info.

Another vote for Bergen County here. Now that I don't live there anymore I really miss it. One thing to be aware of though, it isn't cheap to live there.

Thanks for all the information you all have given me. It helps a whole lot. Looks like I'm going to move up there at the begining of Nevember. They are sending me there in the coming weeks to find a place so at least now I know where to look.

Bergen County is nice, lots of different price ranges and transportation possiblities, you can look central Jersey if you like a quiter life style in the princeton/plainsboro area just get a map. princeton will have multi million dollar mansions as well as affordable condos on the outskirts.

I'd say go 30-45 min east. Although It gets expensive there. That's where I used to live. You can be sure at least there your car won't be touched. It's a rich area. Westfield, Scotch Plains, Watchung. Stay outta Plainfield though(that's like Harlem)

Scotchplains, Watchung and Westfield should be ok to live in. Maybe even WoodBridge, but only certain parts. I use to live in Rahway, and my family still lives there. I would not recommend most parts of it, but Rahway is so close to the train station and buses. Maybe you could find a nice place by the sections where Rahway High School and the Middle school, away from the downtown area . You could take the train to Newark Airport directly from the Rahway and Woodbridge Train stations. I agree though, whatever you do, stay out of Newark, itself. Anyway, good luck in your search.

Lower Bergen county, or west of Newark Airport are probably your best locations.
Look at your public transportation routes from the airport and start asking about towns.
http://www.njtransit.com for bus and train info.

Rockland County NY is nice and not as expensive as Bergen county but still it's pretty expensive. Everything around this way is. Rockland is still a 30 min + drive to Newark. I live in Orange County, NY where prices are a little more reasonable as far as living expenses go but its a good 45 min to an hour commute to Newark.
