New Arizona Law Effective 01 Jan 2009

Check this out:

After I learned of this last week, I started looking at other cars' license frames. I was amazed at how many cover "ARIZONA". I betcha most, if not all of these owners don't have a clue. Sounds like another state revenue generating scheme.

Knowledge is power. Pass it on.

+1 Any local law enforcement officer would be able to know right away if it is an Arizona plate or not by its design, sounds like a pure money maker to me!

Total joke! I guess they don't have the same problem we have in SE Pennsyvlania, people cutting off the registration stickers from plates and using them on expired tags. The frames deter this from happening, as its more to cut, and most can't do it. Especially when the frame is metal.

An extremely similar law was put into effect in Texas a year or two ago. It was funny, all these plastic dealer frames had to be cut in some way to make them work. Lotta time used up there.

That's why I have the thinnest possible frames... not only are they cool, there's about no way for them to complain.

Re: stickers... We don't have that, the plates stay plain, the stickers are on the window above or beside the inspection sticker on the driver's lower right. You'd have to take the windshield or take 20 minutes to razor it carefully off or it'll be destroyed by your efforts.

Whatevs. Use your cleavage and get outta the ticket.

I don't have cleavage. You think a butt crack will work as well? I have one of these...

Boo. License frames always look like crap if you ask me. Why don't states pass something worthwhile like only rear plates.

same thing here in jersey, frames can't cover New Jersey OR Garden State (i don't know why, but its in my cheat cheat law book guide for when I'm on patrol) I dont pull people over for it, but I know a lot of cops that do. I think its stupid to be honest

In addition to the standard license plate Florida has 111 different specialty plates which include 36 universities and 9 pro sports teams. It's getting very difficult to identify a Florida tag if the state name is covered. The same applies for a lot of tourist plates I've seen. We've had this type of law on our books for some time now and I can understand why. In cases where a vehicle has been involved in a hit and run you have a short period of time to identify the tag number, state of issue, and the type of vehicle before the vehicle is too far away. Covering the state name compounds the problem. Oh and if you are driving I-95 then know that Volusia County (as in Daytona Beach) deputies will stop and issue a ticket for this.

Granted it is only a problem if it is your car with the covering license frame but I wonder how you would feel if you couldn't read the tag of the car that just sped off after hitting yours?
