At least three 2005 Mustangs will be racing in the Barber 200 at the Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham July 29-31. If there is any interest, we could have a get-together that weekend to meet face-to-face. Anyone plan on coming from out of town?

I'm down with it... just remember to bring sunscreen!
Brad,
I visited the Barber website and see they have a couple of RV parking areas. Do you know if the race can be seen from the hilltop parking area? It's a bit early for me to schedule anything, but I might be able to bring the RV and set up a TMS command center. It's a 40 foot deisel, so I need a bit of turnaround room and at 27,000 pounds it will sink like a rock in soft grass. Any info you can provide will be appreciated.

John,
It's been two years since I've been out there, but I do believe the RV parking offers a great view of the track. Maybe one of our other members can provide more insight, or I can call out there tomorrow.

IIRC, The hilltop RV parking gives you a good view of most of the track. You park on a hill that overlooks the paddock (which is tiered down to the start/finish line.) With the elevation changes and trees, you might not be able to see some or all of turns 3, 4, 7, 8 or 12. I'm getting my turn numbers from memory and this:

[edit] Here's a photo I took from my preferred viewing area, between 10 and 11, directly in front of the hairpin "Charlotte's Web" (turn 5). You can see some pretty big RVs up on the hill. Don't know how they compare to your 40 foot rig, farmerjohn...

[2nd edit] I wonder if the race control building obstructs the view of the start/finish line from the hilltop? You can just make out the flagstand between the flagpole with a white flag and the open staircase in the middle of the building. That would kinda stink...
